When a background check reveals information that could affect a job offer, employers must follow a process called "Adverse Action" to ensure fairness and protect applicants' rights. Before making any decisions, employers assess the findings, considering factors such as the timing of the offense, its relevance to the role, and any positive changes in the applicant's life. In some cases, the law requires a written explanation of this assessment.
