Director of People & Culture at NA:EUN Hospitality
“What inspires me is the human connection that runs through the core of this industry. Food is love, and taking care of people is an act of love that creates something truly special. What drives me is the opportunity to support the next generation of leaders who will continue this journey and bring even more depth and purpose to the experiences we create. There’s still a lot to figure out as an industry, but I’m confident that if we stay grounded in connection and care, we’ll shape a more inclusive, thoughtful future for everyone.„
EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
Throughout my career, I’ve learned to always be guided by love — love for my team, love for the work, love for the community, love for delicious food and drinks, love for the planet. It’s easy to be driven by ambition, competition, fame or success, and while some of these can be healthy motivators, what endures in the end, what truly connects us all, is love.
Don’t fear confrontation; embrace it with openness. When something feels off, address it head-on. Whether it’s a guest or a team member, be proactive and truly listen. It’s easy to look like we’re listening, but active listening takes practice. It’s not about planning your next response — it’s about fully hearing what the other person is saying. That’s where the real connection happens.
When hiring, I always look for soft skills, what I call human skills. Are you self-driven and disciplined? Can you handle tough situations with grace and confidence? When faced with a challenge, do you show resilience without feeling completely disheartened? Are you able to communicate your thoughts and feelings effectively, especially under pressure?
Travel has always fueled my passion. Watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain sparked a love for exploring new cultures and cuisines. Travel broadens my perspective and reminds me of the shared human experiences that unite us. It keeps my creativity flowing, inspiring me to bring fresh ideas into my work. At the heart of it all is the essence of hospitality—connecting with people through universal values that transcend borders.
I meditate every morning. Sometimes I’m able to take some time to sit still and breathe, and sometimes it’s just a couple minutes before I need to quickly run out the door, but the busier I am, the more I find the need to sit with myself and center. It completely changes how I handle the rest of the day! I know it’s hard to get started, but I always urge people to start with just two minutes a day.
I listen to the following podcast regularly: The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos; Tara Brach; NPR Up First; The Ezra Klein Show; Where Should We Begin? With Esther Perel
To keep my team inspired, I believe in leading with joy and energy every single day, no matter how I’m feeling. There are moments when vulnerability is important, but leadership, to me, is about being a positive force—a source of energy that lifts the room and reminds everyone why we do what we do.
Equally important is making sure every team member feels truly seen. It’s not just about recognizing their hard work; it’s about understanding their stories, their challenges, and their dreams. I want them to know they’re more than just a part of the operation—they’re valued as individuals. Their aspirations matter, and it’s our job as leaders to help them reach them.
After over a decade in this industry, what keeps me inspired is the magic that happens when different cultural perspectives collide. That spark of innovation, the way it pushes us to be better—it’s something I see every day in our teams. Growing up in a Japanese household shaped the way I approach problem-solving and leadership. It taught me to see challenges differently and embrace creativity in every decision I make.
What truly lights me up, though, is the chance to be a mentor and role model—especially as a woman of color in this space. I want to inspire others to lean into their individuality, to see their unique stories as their greatest strengths. For me, it’s all about creating workplaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to show up as their best, most authentic selves. That’s the kind of change that matters.
