The biggest lesson I have you learned in my career is that you have to be a chameleon in this industry. All of us know that no two days are ever the same, so the best thing you can do is adapt and keep an open mind when tackling any task. This mindset has not only helped me get through my day-to-day since I stepped into the hospitality industry, but has also led me to my current position that I didn’t even know I would be so passionate about.

EXPERIENCE
Making a move out of the Back of House and venturing into an office/admin role at Boka Restaurant Group has had the most significant impact on my career, leading me to a career path that I never imagined. I still recall being extremely anxious that I might not have the essential experience or skillset, but was extremely fortunate enough to come across mentors that wanted to help me grow into my new role and teach me every step of the way. Every day, I am allowed to focus on what truly excites me and keeps me challenged, ensuring that my career development is never at a standstill.
When hiring, I look for creative individuals, who keep an open mind, and who are always hungry to learn and grow. It is incredibly inspiring to work with people who are continually looking to do more, not only for their career path, but also for the organization.
Having a unique position to extend hospitality not only to our guests, but also to our entire team keeps me inspired. Our employees dedicate a significant amount of time at our restaurants, and I am fortunate to be in the position where I can ensure they are taken care of and provide them with any assistance, big or small.
I find inspiration in the leaders, whether they are the owners, chefs, or managers within our industry. We are so lucky to have some of the most inspiring individuals, and I am always so eager to listen to any wise words from them, may it be about their career path or how they have tackled roadblocks they have encountered in their journey.
I couldn't do this job without the leaders in our company who have become my mentors. They all keep me on my toes and continually challenge me.
"Grit" by Angela Duckworth is a must-read for any hospitality professional. The emphasis on passion and perseverance could not be any more perfect for anyone in this industry and truly challenges the way we currently view success.
