I’ve learned lots of lessons, sometimes the hard way. I think the biggest lesson I've learned in my career is that failing is OK. I’d rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed.

How to fail well is a key skill that everyone should learn. If you don't learn from your mistakes you will continue to repeat them.
My most important employee retention and hiring tools include: inspiring, communicating, and challenging my staff.
Clear and open communication in regards to goals and performance is paramount in motivating the team. Having the ability to communicate effectively ensures that everyone is aware of the real-time changes and events that can happen quickly during service.
At work, I encourage my team members to have long term career goals and challenge them to gain the skills necessary to achieve those goals. Whether it’s industry organizations, wine classes or grad school – nothing is off the table.
For me, inspiration comes from the process of achieving the goal. When a group of individuals believe in something and try to accomplish that unified goal, it creates an environment where brilliant and creative ideas happen.
The four books that are the most essential to have are Principles by Ray Dalio, Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain, Lessons in Excellence by Charlie Trotter, and Lodging Magazine.
