Hospitality, to me, is much larger than just serving food and drinks. Hospitality is influencing so many other industries; some more directly such as fishing and agriculture but also design, tech and shipping. I still find it mind-blowing that those everyday cups of coffee are bridges to farming communities thousands of miles away. Hospitality is social and constantly re-inventing itself. I couldn’t imagine working in any other industry.

I knew I would continue with hospitality the moment I took a desk job. Some people are just not built to sit and stare at a screen all day.
I do find it important to learn new things to stay up-to-date. Luckily, part of educating yourself as a hospitality worker means going out to restaurants and bars. I also try to visit the nearest wine regions as often as possible. Whenever I need some time out of the city, I go to a wine region.
It has become so easy so educate yourself online. Never mind the certificate or diploma just learn something new.
When hiring hospitality professionals, I look for people that we as a team can trust and rely on.
Working 6 months on a vineyard was probably one of the most giving work experiences I have ever had. I did not appreciate it at all for the first few months; it was before dawn, it was cold, long hours and very monotone manual work. But it taught me how much work it takes to grow wine grapes and gave me a respect for the product and an understanding that good wine grows in beautiful places. Also, sitting on a vineyard, eating your lunch while looking at lakes, long tree lines, and kangaroos jumping around, is pretty amazing.
