“Everything you learn along the way is going to come back to help you at some point. My previous careers in design and higher education may seem irrelevant in the food industry, but they have been a big part of the work I do today. „
I've always been passionate about food, but I considered it a hobby that I would focus on after my "regular" job. After hearing so many friends and family trying my food and saying that food was my thing and that I should open a restaurant, I finally chose to take the leap. It's a really tough industry, but the role that we play in our community and how much we have been embraced is truly affirming.
I typically look for staff who have ganas (or are eager to work), learn, and be leaders. This inspires me to work harder and keep creating growth and development opportunities for my team.
Attention to detail is everything. You have to think about this work as creating experiences for people and wonder how they will feel, what would make this memorable, and does it all look our absolute best.
Food is such an important part of our lives, and it's important to me to make sure that everyone has the same access to healthy good food. We are doing our part to create change needed in our communities and the industry.
I'm constantly reading food books, from cookbooks and recipes to books on how to be a more conscious eater for the planet. This life is all one big lesson, and I'm trying to be a good student.
