    Role & Tasks:

I was hired as a hostess at Fork and Flask at Nage (formerly Nage) in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware in 2014. I was a seasonal employee for three summers when I was home from college, and I also worked over some holiday breaks. Although I was hired as a hostess, we had a small front of house staff so I was trained to work all positions. During my three seasons at Nage I also gained experience as a utility worker (food runner/ table busser), and as a server. As a hostess my main roles were to take reservations over the phone and in person and enter the information into Open Table, add information about guests to their Open Table profile as we learned about their preferences (from seating type and location, to food and drink preferences), organize and adjust the reservations and seatings for that day, confirm reservations via phone call, check the answering machine and call guests back as needed, greet and seat parties as they arrived, and update the status of tables in Open Table as they were dining. In general, as a front of house worker when my main hostess tasks were complete and I was able to I would refill waters, mis tables, clear tables, run food and drinks, polish and role silverware, and answer questions or take orders if a table looked like they needed something and their server was not available at that moment. When I served I of course had to complete all of the front of house tasks I just mentioned, as well as opening and closing tasks for the restaurant, taking drink and food orders from tables, and taking care of anything else the guests needed.
