Located in the up and coming Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood, Cannon Green provides an updated spin on entertaining. Our unique urban space has been thoroughly renovated to create an inspired, full-service restaurant plus event experience to expertly carry out a wide-range of events and celebrations.

We are seeking a Senior Banquet Captain to oversee our Events service staff through all phases of an Event, including event set-up, day-of event execution and service, and breakdown and clean up. This is an excellent opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes event management experience.

This position will create and maintain relationships with clients and guests in event areas, with a strong passion to elevate one’s special event experience. Wil act as a liaison between the kitchen, service teams, sales, and guests to provide a truly wonderful and memorable experience. Will also assist the Event Sales Team with weekly administrative and maintenance duties.

Essential Functions: Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities. Must be able to delegate responsibilities, organize complex projects, and establish priorities consistent with business objectives and philosophies. Have a positive attitude and a courteous demeanor with all customers, staffers, and vendors. Must be able to work well with others and help with other responsibilities as needed in order to maintain an environment of teamwork.

Event Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and assist with day-of set-up, service, and breakdown assigned functions in a safe, accident-free manner.
  • Responsible for proactively reviewing staffing and equipment needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring coordination and execution of all events with Culinary, Stewarding, Catering, Floor Staff, and Beverage.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high energy, positive, professional appearance.
  • Supervise, Empower, Lead, Coach and Motivate the Banquet team including captains, food servers, and attendants towards achieving exceptional guest service results and complete engagement.
  • Creates an environment establishing highest standards of quality service and ensures implementation through effective hiring, training development, promotion and continuous reinforcement.
  • Supervise and assist with completing assigned side work.
  • Manage staff during event to ensure service according to established policies & procedures.
  • Meet/greet all Clients in order to act as liaison between group and Cannon Green.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist in interviewing and hiring new banquet staff to maintain necessary seasonal staffing.
  • Assist in training new hires in proper event service standards and procedures.
  • Confirm weekly schedule, ensuring staff show for their appropriate shifts.
  • Oversee employee uniform inventory and check out assignments.
  • Perform weekly beer, wine, and liquor inventories, monitoring and accounting for variances and recording into running monthly inventories.
  • Assist Event Sales Manager in monthly Big 4 inventories, managing par levels for event equipment.
  • Manage event equipment maintenance, keep track of inventory and ordering of materials in China Room, staff uniforms, linens, and seat cushions.

General Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, 8 to 12 hours.
  • Ability to perform repetitive range of motion activities.
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Be able to count and handle currency accurately.
  • Successfully carry a tray of food and/or beverages.

Technology Requirements:

Proficiency is required in the following systems and software:

  • Revel POS
  • Gather
  • Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Google Docs
