Bartender

Above Board is a hospitality-driven cocktail bar located in the center of The Square rooted in classic service, strong fundamentals, and genuine warmth. We believe great bars are built on consistency, presence, precision, and personality. We are seeking bartenders who take pride in craft, move with urgency, and understand that hospitality matters as much as what’s in the glass.

Position Summary

The Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while executing beverage service with speed, accuracy, cleanliness, and professionalism. This role requires strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and bar systems, along with the ability to maintain a clean and organized station in a fast-paced environment.

This position requires flexible availability for both AM and PM shifts.

Schedule Requirements

Applicants must be available to work a mix of opening and closing shifts, including:

• AM Shifts: Opening duties, prep, lunch/early service, event support
• PM Shifts: Evening service, closing duties
• Ability to work a flexible weekly schedule
• Some weekend availability preferred, but not required

Core Responsibilities Guest Experience

• Welcome and engage guests with warmth, confidence, and professionalism
• Guide guests through menus and make thoughtful recommendations
• Deliver attentive, efficient service while maintaining composure under pressure
• Build repeat business through genuine hospitality and consistency

Beverage Execution

• Prepare cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages to spec
• Maintain speed and accuracy during busy service periods
• Demonstrate strong foundational knowledge of classic cocktails and spirits
• Uphold presentation standards for every drink served

Bar Operations

• Execute opening, mid-shift, and closing checklists thoroughly
• Maintain clean, stocked, organized workstations at all times
• Manage mise en place, batching, garnish prep, and product rotation
• Handle POS transactions accurately and responsibly
• Follow all sanitation, safety, and responsible alcohol service standards

Team Standards

• Communicate clearly with management
• Arrive on time, prepared, and in proper uniform
• Support team success over individual ego
• Receive coaching professionally and contribute to a positive culture

Qualifications

• 2+ years bartending experience in a quality-driven bar or restaurant preferred
• Strong cocktail knowledge and willingness to continue learning
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• High standards for cleanliness and organization
• Professional appearance and strong communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
