Job Details
Black Forest Hospitality Group is hiring a Head of Service & Team Performance to lead front-of-house performance across three Brooklyn locations (Black Forest – Fort Greene, Black Forest – Smith Street, and Fritz Cocktail Bar).

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on driving sales, improving team performance, and strengthening service standards — not a traditional shift manager position.

You will be responsible for the overall performance of the front-of-house team across all locations, with a focus on:
• driving sales and improving guest experience
• building and developing a strong team
• maintaining consistent service standards
• ensuring accountability and operational discipline

This role is primarily on the floor observing, training, and improving execution — not a shift manager or fill-in service role.

You’ll work closely with ownership, captains, and kitchen leadership to ensure all locations operate at a high level.



What You’ll Be Doing
• Hire, train, and develop FOH staff across all locations
• Build schedules and manage labor effectively
• Drive sales through improved service execution, upselling culture, and team performance
• Monitor service and coach in real time to improve execution
• Identify operational issues (service, staffing, accountability) and take corrective action
• Lead captains and ensure consistent shift leadership
• Hold team members accountable to standards through coaching and performance management
• Review comps, voids, and POS activity to improve discipline and reduce loss
• Maintain a strong leadership presence across all locations, especially during peak service
• Take ownership of overall FOH performance across all locations



What This Role Is NOT
• Not primarily responsible for running shifts or covering routine staffing gaps
• Not a bartender/server role
• Not responsible for payroll, inventory, or purchasing
• Not an administrative desk job



Schedule & Expectations
• 40–45 hours/week
• Strong in-person presence across all locations
• Weekend availability (Fri/Sat/Sun) is essential
• Schedule rotates, typically with two consecutive weekdays off

This role requires someone who wants to be in the restaurants, not behind a desk.



What We’re Looking For
• Strong FOH leadership / restaurant management experience in NYC restaurants or bars
• Someone who understands how to drive sales through service
• Confident, calm presence on the floor
• High standards and strong accountability mindset
• Ability to train, coach, and improve a team
• Organized, reliable, and solutions-oriented



Compensation
$75,000–$85,000 base salary + performance-based bonus
Health Insurance (50% employer contribution, available after 3 months)
401(k) program (available after 1 year)
Compensation is structured to reward strong results and growth

Black Forest Hospitality Group operates three well-established Brooklyn venues:
Black Forest (Fort Greene), Black Forest (Smith Street), and Fritz Cocktail Bar (Fort Greene).

    We grew up in Germany’s Black Forest, but only met in Brooklyn.
    As a tribute to our love we opened Black Forest Brooklyn, serving homemade regional specialties and a unique selection of German draft beer, wines & craft spirits.

    Black Forest Brooklyn opened in 2013 in Fort Greene as an instant neighborhood favorite with a warm and casual vibe for brunch & dinner. A second location opened in the Fall of 2017 at 181 Smith Street in Boerum Hill for brunch & dinner, featuring outdoor seating in a large backyard.

    In addition to our our spacious and bright indoor dining rooms, both restaurants have outdoor seating: in Fort Greene you can sit on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, with overhead heaters and a retractable awning. At the Smith Street location you can sit in our large backyard, which is home to the The Backyard Chalet which is heated, covered, has dividers between all parties, and ceiling fans for ventilation. There is also additional outdoor seating in the backyard that is not covered.

    Dogs are allowed in all our outdoor spaces.
