Maxwell Social is a private members club in Tribeca designed to feel like a home, not a nightclub. Our 8,000-square-foot space has three main rooms, two kitchens, and a warm, curated atmosphere built around a small, intentional membership community. We host private events and member gatherings throughout the week, with consistent programming Wednesday through Sunday.
We are not a high-volume bar. We are a place where every drink matters, where the cocktail program is part of the identity of the club, and where the person behind the bar is as important as the person in the room.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a talented, creative bartender to lead our cocktail program. This is a hands-on role: you will be behind the bar making drinks most nights, but you will also have full creative ownership of what those drinks are. You will design our seasonal cocktail menus, develop signature drinks for events, and shape the drinking experience at Maxwell from the ground up.
This is not a management position. You will not be managing staff, handling ordering or vendor relationships, or running operations. What you will have is something rarer: a blank canvas. If you have been bartending at a great spot and want to build something that is yours, this is the opportunity.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design and execute Maxwell Social's cocktail program, including seasonal menu development and signature drinks for our events.
- Bartend evenings on some 40 hour schedule Wednesday through Sunday (almost always evenings), with heavier volume on Friday and Saturday evening
- Craft exceptional drinks with precision and creativity. We want someone who thinks about technique (infusions, clarifications, fat-washing, house-made syrups) but also knows when a perfectly made classic is the right call
- Work with the rest of our bartending team to ensure quality is up to par across all bartenders
- Create custom cocktails based on event themes, member preferences, and seasonal ingredients
- Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked bar. Ensure all equipment is in good working order
- Engage with members warmly and authentically. This is a private club; relationships matter. You are part of the experience, not just behind it
- Process transactions accurately through our Toast POS system. We do not accept cash
- Collaborate with the events and operations team to support programming, themed nights, and special occasions
WHO YOU ARE
- You have significant bartending experience in NYC, ideally at a restaurant or bar known for its cocktail program. We want to see where you have worked and what you have made
- You have strong technical knowledge of cocktail preparation, spirits, and flavor profiles, and you stay current with what is happening in the industry
- You are creative and opinionated about drinks. You have ideas for a program, not just the ability to follow recipes
- You are personable, warm, and comfortable in an intimate setting where you will get to know members by name
- You can multitask and stay composed during busy events without sacrificing quality
- TIPS certification or equivalent preferred
COMPENSATION
Salary: $55,000 - $70,000, commensurate with experience and the strength of your portfolio. Creative ownership of the cocktail program at a growing private members club. Opportunities for growth as the club expands.
