Job Details

The Friedman's Team is opening a new restaurant, Jack's All Day a new American Restaurant and Bar.

The Lead Line Cook at Jack’s plays a critical leadership role in the daily execution of kitchen operations. Acting as the right hand to the Kitchen Manager, this position is responsible for organizing the line, leading service, maintaining standards, and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and cohesively. This role is an integral part of the opening team, helping to open a new restaurant by building systems, setting standards, training staff, and establishing a strong kitchen culture from day one. The ideal candidate is a strong cook with natural leadership instincts, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to consistency and quality.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, and support line cooks during prep and service

  • Set the tone for professionalism, urgency, and teamwork on the line

  • Assist in training and onboarding new kitchen team members

  • Hold team accountable to standards of cleanliness, organization, and execution

  • Step into a supervisory role in the absence of the Kitchen Manager

Service Execution & Expediting
  • Help lead and control the flow of service to ensure timely, accurate execution

  • Expedite during service, maintaining quality and consistency of all dishes

  • Communicate clearly with front-of-house and kitchen team to ensure smooth service

  • Identify and solve problems in real-time during service

Kitchen Organization & Operations
  • Act as the Kitchen Manager’s right hand in organizing the kitchen and line setup

  • Ensure stations are properly stocked, prepped, and set for service

  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards

  • Drive cleanliness and organization across all kitchen areas

Ordering & Inventory Support
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management

  • Monitor product levels and communicate needs proactively

  • Help manage food cost through proper portioning, storage, and waste control

Administrative & Reporting
  • Report directly to the Kitchen Manager on daily operations, issues, and team performance

  • Assist in implementing systems, processes, and improvements in the kitchen

  • Support scheduling and labor efficiency as needed

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and organization

  • Ability to lead a team under pressure while maintaining composure

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to consistency and quality

  • Ability to clearly communicate in English during service, including calling tickets, expediting, and coordinating with front- and back-of-house teams

  • Experience opening a new restaurant or willingness to contribute to an opening team environment preferred

A little about us & the culture that has been created…

Friedmans is a family run business, which operates locations throughout New York City. Friedmans was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. This phrase has gone on to be used in science, economics, finance, statistics, technology, sports, & now food. However, to put it simply, “to get one thing we like, we usually have to give up another thing we like.”

The original store opened in 2009 in the Chelsea Market. One of the pioneers Vanessa had been diagnosed with celiac disease and had to eat gluten-free. So when the first location opened she was vocal about making it a gluten-free safe haven for her and her celiac peers. She was adamant that there be only one menu available which would be entirely gluten-free. After long hours in the kitchen and playing with all different sorts of flours we believe we have created some of the best pancakes, waffles, and fried chicken. More importantly, they are all intrinsically gluten-free.

Our mantra is simple, “Eat good food” and this is what we strive to deliver to our guests. For us, it has two meanings. Firstly, eat food that tastes good. Secondly, be proud of the food you serve. We know where our food comes from. We communicate regularly with our farmers and are proud to serve antibiotic free meats & local vegetables. Our mission is for you to love, respect, & enjoy, not only the food you serve, but also the team you work with.
