Anton's is a nostalgic New York café and wine bar in the heart of the West Village. The vision of husband-and-wife co-founders Nick Anderer and Natalie Johnson, Anton's thoughtfully reimagines NYC's rich culinary history through comforting, eclectic American cuisine with deep European influences. The restaurant's design evokes the warmth and casual elegance of the quintessential New York restaurants and bars that serve as our inspiration, updated for today. We're seeking strong and dynamic leadership to guide our team and continue to nourish our community. Included below is a detailed overview of the role of General Manager within our bustling restaurant.

The General Manager works closely with ownership to maintain Anton's standards of excellence across our culinary, beverage and service programs. The General Manager must possess strong leadership skills, be focused and able to prioritize abundant and varied responsibilities; they must exude genuine warmth and empathy both in dealing with our team and our guests, and a willingness to continuously educate and grow the team. While upholding these operational standards, the GM must also focus on steadily increasing covers and revenue for the business and maintaining healthy labor, beverage and food costs. Daily and weekly responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently work to foster and maintain a culture of confidence, generosity and empathy by ensuring a safe, clean and adequately equipped workplace, consistency in payroll and scheduling, and ongoing education and coaching.
  • Lead all team members in offering genuine, informed, and intuitive hospitality experiences. 
  • Engage with all managers and service team members to improve guest experience through thoughtful service actions.
  • Promptly produce weekly schedules that consider and protect both the restaurant's staffing and employees' personal needs.
  • Process weekly payrolls, keeping an eye on and reporting any irregularities or major fluctuations to ownership.
  • Lead Service Management team, delegating and overseeing administrative responsibilities including consistent supplies inventories & ordering, website maintenance, delivery app maintenance, etc.
  • Review monthly P&Ls to ensure prime costs are consistent and sales are continuously growing.
While managing these many responsibilities, the GM should act as a creative partner to ownership, presenting fresh operational goals and initiatives in an effort to strengthen our systems and network internally and externally within our surrounding community. 

The following are requirements to be considered for the position:
  • 2+ years leadership experience in similar environment
  • Proficient understanding of restaurant systems and operations
  • Proficiency with various tools, including Open Table, Resy, Toast (POS), Bentobox (website), Sling (scheduling), ADP (payroll) and various third party delivery apps
  • Foundation in NY State and Federal HR standards and practices
  • Strong business and financial instincts 
  • Fluency in English, with a basic understanding of Spanish preferred
