Job Details

Friedman’s is seeking a General Manager to lead the opening and ongoing operations of our new Tribeca location at Greenwich & North Moore. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building a high-performing team, delivering exceptional guest experiences, and driving strong financial results in a fast-paced, all-day dining environment.

The General Manager will serve as the face of the restaurant—owning everything from pre-opening through stabilized operations—while upholding Friedman’s core ethos: serving thoughtful, high-quality food that’s approachable, inclusive, and consistently executed.

Key Responsibilities Opening Leadership
  • Lead all pre-opening efforts, including hiring, training, systems implementation, and culture-building
  • Partner with ownership on staffing model, labor plan, and opening budgets and financial projections
  • Oversee soft opening execution and ensure operational readiness across front and back of house
  • Establish clear service standards and operating procedures from day one
Operations Management
  • Own day-to-day operations across breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner
  • Drive consistency in food quality, service, and execution across all dayparts
  • Maintain strong systems around:
    • Service flow and timing
    • Cleanliness and organization
    • Opening/closing discipline
Financial Performance
  • Full accountability for P&L performance
  • Manage:
    • Labor cost and scheduling efficiency
    • Cost of goods, ordering, and inventory controls
  • Identify and drive revenue opportunities through:
    • Throughput optimization 
    • Local store marketing and repeat guest strategy
    • Private events and neighborhood partnerships
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Hire, train, and develop a team of managers and hourly staff
  • Build a culture of accountability, hospitality, and consistency
  • Be a present, floor-driven leader, coaching in real time
  • Create structure, clarity, and growth paths to drive retention
Guest Experience
  • Set the tone for warm, approachable, New York hospitality
  • Actively manage the dining room and guest flow
  • Resolve issues quickly and with good judgment
  • Build a strong base of repeat guests and neighborhood regulars
Systems & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with DOH regulations and food safety standards
  • Maintain and enforce all company systems, including:
    • POS and reporting
    • Inventory and ordering
    • Opening/closing procedures
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of restaurant management experience, including 2+ years as a GM or AGM in NYC
  • Experience in high-volume, full-service restaurants
  • Strong understanding of P&L management, labor, and cost controls
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Hands-on, floor-oriented leadership style
Preferred
  • Experience opening a restaurant or leading a major launch
  • Background in all-day dining 
  • Experience in neighborhood-driven restaurants with strong repeat business

A little about us & the culture that has been created…

Friedmans is a family run business, which operates locations throughout New York City. Friedmans was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. This phrase has gone on to be used in science, economics, finance, statistics, technology, sports, & now food. However, to put it simply, “to get one thing we like, we usually have to give up another thing we like.”

The original store opened in 2009 in the Chelsea Market. One of the pioneers Vanessa had been diagnosed with celiac disease and had to eat gluten-free. So when the first location opened she was vocal about making it a gluten-free safe haven for her and her celiac peers. She was adamant that there be only one menu available which would be entirely gluten-free. After long hours in the kitchen and playing with all different sorts of flours we believe we have created some of the best pancakes, waffles, and fried chicken. More importantly, they are all intrinsically gluten-free.

Our mantra is simple, “Eat good food” and this is what we strive to deliver to our guests. For us, it has two meanings. Firstly, eat food that tastes good. Secondly, be proud of the food you serve. We know where our food comes from. We communicate regularly with our farmers and are proud to serve antibiotic free meats & local vegetables. Our mission is for you to love, respect, & enjoy, not only the food you serve, but also the team you work with.
