American Sardine Bar has been serving Point Breeze for more than 14 years with creative plates, craft beer from small breweries we know and love, thoughtfully chosen low-intervention wines, strong cocktails, and a vibe that’s unmistakably our own. We’ve grown and polished over time, but at our core we’re still the same neighborhood restaurant and bar where regulars gather and new guests quickly feel at home.
Who We’re Hiring
We’re expanding our team and are looking for a Server to join us.
Servers at American Sardine Bar are responsible for providing attentive, knowledgeable full-service hospitality while helping keep service running smoothly across the dining room and bar. This role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to stay organized and composed in a busy service environment.
On the Floor
You’ll run a section, guide guests through the menu, take food and drink orders, run plates, and ensure guests feel well taken care of throughout their visit.
Product Knowledge
We care deeply about what we serve. Servers should be comfortable learning and talking about our food menu, craft beer list, wine selections, and cocktails in a way that is approachable and helpful for guests.
Teamwork
We work in a pooled-tip system, so collaboration is essential. Servers support bartenders, support staff, and fellow servers throughout service — everyone contributes to keeping things running smoothly.
Schedule
Expect 3+ shifts per week, primarily evenings. Some daytime availability is a plus. Our kitchen is open until midnight and the bar until 2am, so closing and weekend availability are required.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years of serving experience in a high-volume restaurant or bar with food service
Interest in craft beer, wine, and cocktails (strong beverage knowledge a plus)
Ability to move quickly, multitask, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable balancing the energy of a neighborhood bar with thoughtful, detail-driven service
Dependable and consistent with scheduling and attendance
Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of a busy neighborhood restaurant
Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in warmer temperatures, as our backyard is a major part of service during the spring and summer months
Self-motivated and proactive, able to identify what needs to be done and support the team without constant direction
Able to use sidework systems effectively while also recognizing additional needs during service
Must be available to work nights and weekends consistently
Able to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs
Clear communicator, team-oriented, and genuinely interested in hospitality
Training & Onboarding
New hires complete a 4–5 day training program designed to set you up for success, followed by a 60-day probationary period. During this time, you’ll work closely with managers and trainers to learn our systems, standards, and service style.
What We Value
Pride in our food and beverage programs — thoughtfully chosen beer, wine, and cocktails
High standards with no shortcuts, but plenty of support to help you get there
A team-driven culture where everyone helps each other out
Regulars who value what we do, and a neighborhood that has our back
Space for staff input and creativity in shaping the guest experience
We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer and believe good hospitality comes from all kinds of people.
