General Manager — Murray's Sturgeon Shop New York, NY (Upper West Side) | Full-Time
Murray's Sturgeon Shop has been a cornerstone of the Upper West Side for over 80 years. We're a family-owned appetizing institution — known for our smoked fish, our regulars, and our place in the fabric of this neighborhood. As the family looks toward the future, we're searching for a special person to take the reins.
The Opportunity
This isn't a typical GM role. We're looking for someone who thinks like an owner — a long-term partner who will step in, earn the trust of our community, and grow something truly special. If you've ever dreamed of running a cherished small business without starting from scratch, this is a rare chance to do exactly that. Murray's has the brand, the loyal customer base, and 80 years of goodwill behind it. We need the right person to take it to the next level.
What You'll Do
You'll oversee every aspect of daily operations, five days a week, including:
- Opening the shop and accepting and inspecting morning deliveries
- Managing kitchen operations and ensuring product quality meets our exacting standards
- Coordinating outgoing deliveries and wholesale orders
- Leading, scheduling, and mentoring a small, tight-knit staff
- Owning the customer experience from the moment someone walks through the door
- Identifying and executing opportunities to grow the business — whether through catering, wholesale, online sales, opening new locations, or beyond
Who You Are
- A natural people person who lights up behind the counter as much as in the back office
- Entrepreneurially minded — you see opportunity, not just tasks
- Organized, reliable, and comfortable owning a full operation
- Passionate about food, community, and quality
- Experience in food service, retail, or hospitality management strongly preferred
- Someone looking to plant roots, not pass through
