Overview
Mister Cheeks is an all-day cafe and neighborhood market located in the heart of Carroll Gardens. Our FOH and BOH teams are experienced and largely self-sufficient. We’re looking for a working manager who can step in where needed, strengthen our prep and production systems, and support daily operations with precision and accountability. This is a hands-on, operations-forward positions for someone who thrives in the details.
The Cafe/Kitchen Manager will primarily support BOH prep and production while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. The Manager’s primary focus is operational support, prep leadership, staffing gap coverage, and administrative oversight, while occasionally supporting FOH service when needed.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both kitchen work and operational organization – equal parts execution and systems thinking.
The Cafe/Kitchen Manager reports to the Owner.

Key Responsibilities
- Support daily prep and light production alongside the kitchen team
- Step into the line or prep shifts when staffing gaps arise, provide break coverage
- Help maintain production flow and organization
- Ensure pars and prep lists are accurate, realistic, and aligned with sales
- Manage inventory counts and cost tracking
- Create and maintain pars for all food, beverage, and paper goods
- Place vendor orders and maintain strong vendor relationships
- Monitor waste and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
- Assist with scheduling adjustments when needed
- Support bar, counter, or flood operations as needed
- Maintain hospitality standards and service flow
- Act as a bridge between FOH and BOH to ensure seamless communication.
- Support onboarding and training when required
- Maintain food safety standards and DOH compliance
- Help ensure consistency in product quality and execution
Ideal Candidate
- 2+ years experience in a cafe or restaurant management of lead BOH role
- Prior FOH experience is a plus!
- Strong understanding of prep systems and kitchen workflow
- Comfortable working on your feet and jumping into service
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Confident with inventory systems, spreadsheets, and ordering platforms
- Calm under pressure and solutions-focused
- NYC DOH Food Protection Certificate
This is a role for someone who understands the full ecosystem of a cafe prep flow, pars, service rhythm, communication between teams, and stepping in wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.
