Sommelier Track Position (Server / Sommelier Hybrid)
Buena Vista Restaurant & Cocktail Bar – East Village, NYC

Buena Vista Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is seeking a wine-focused hospitality professional to join our team at our new East Village location on 2nd Avenue.

This is a Sommelier Track Position designed for someone passionate about wine who wants to actively participate in building a restaurant wine program while working on the dining room floor.

Because Buena Vista is a growing concept, this role will function as a hybrid Server / Sommelier position, allowing the candidate to develop their sommelier skills while delivering high-level hospitality service.

The right candidate will act as a wine ambassador within the dining room, guiding guests through our wine list, recommending pairings, and helping shape the wine culture of the restaurant.

Our wine program emphasizes Spain, Latin America, and Europe, with a carefully curated list designed to complement the bold flavors of our Latin American-inspired cuisine.

 

What You'll Do

• Provide exceptional dining room service as part of the front-of-house team
• Engage guests in wine conversations and guide them through the wine list
• Recommend pairings and bottle selections based on guest preferences
• Present and serve wine professionally
• Support wine inventory organization and cellar maintenance
• Assist in staff wine education and pre-shift tastings
• Help grow the wine program as the restaurant expands


Who We're Looking For

• A hospitality professional with a genuine passion for wine
• Prior restaurant serving experience required
• Wine education (WSET, CMS, or equivalent) preferred but not required
• Strong communication and guest engagement skills
• Someone excited to grow with a developing wine program

The Opportunity

This role is designed as a pathway into a full-time Sommelier position as the Buena Vista wine program evolves.

Candidates who demonstrate strong wine knowledge, leadership, and guest engagement will have the opportunity to grow into a dedicated Sommelier role within the restaurant.

Compensation

Competitive NYC compensation (hourly + tips + wine sales bonus) with growth opportunities within the Buena Vista hospitality group.


Compensation Details
