Floor Manager

Greens Restaurant — San Francisco

Greens Restaurant is seeking a Floor Manager to help lead service and support our dining room team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on the floor, enjoys mentoring staff, and is passionate about hospitality.

We are looking for someone who sees restaurant work as a career and is interested in growing into more senior leadership over time.

Compensation

Hourly: $35 - $42/hour
Potential path toward senior management and salaried leadership roles

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage dining room service shifts
• Support the team through active floor presence and strong communication
• Ensure a warm, polished guest experience throughout service
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and team briefings
• Support staff development and training
• Collaborate closely with the management team on daily operations
• Step into operational leadership when needed during service

Schedule

This role requires flexibility and availability across service periods, including:

• Days and evenings
• Weekend shifts
• Holiday and peak service coverage when needed

Qualifications

• Prior restaurant leadership experience (floor manager, lead server, captain, etc.)
• Strong service instincts and guest engagement skills
• Ability to lead calmly and effectively during busy service
• Interest in hospitality as a long-term career
• Beverage knowledge and passion are a strong plus
• Comfortable supporting both service and operational needs

The opening of Greens Restaurant on San Francisco Bay in 1979 forever changed the image and appreciation of vegetarian cooking in America. Known for a distinctive culinary style of celebrating vegetables, Greens produces ever-changing menus that are dedicated to the seasonal harvests of local farmers and the organic gardens of its farm, Green Gulch.

With a panorama view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and the Marina sea life, Greens Restaurant is a lively scene in a spacious warehouse where grand windows stretch floor-to-ceiling in the dining room. The restaurant, and private dining room, is adorned by colorful skies and the majestic changing scenes and sunset of the Pacific Ocean.

Originally opened as a part of the San Francisco Zen Center and inspired by the food and service offered at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, the restaurant provided an opportunity for Zen students to extend their Buddhist practice into a workplace setting. For many years the only employees at Greens were Zen students. In the corner of the kitchen, on a spice shelf, sits a small altar to Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion, where it has remained lit since opening day.
