Apéro is a French steakhouse in Oceanport, New Jersey, rooted in classical French technique and driven by seasonal, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Our menu is a love letter to the bistro tradition —

escargot, steak tartare, moules frites, coq au vin, prime steaks frites — executed with the precision and care of a fine dining kitchen.

We are a serious kitchen building something lasting. The team we assemble now will define the culture, the standards, and the reputation of this restaurant for years to come.

T H E  R O L E

We are looking for a Sous Chef who leads from the line. You will work directly alongside the Executive Chef, owning day-to-day kitchen operations, quality control, and team development. This is not a desk job — you will cook.

R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S

Execute service at the highest level alongside the Executive Chef

Maintain recipe integrity, plate consistency, and quality standards across all stations

Assist in menu development, daily specials, and seasonal changes

Lead and develop a kitchen team — training, coaching, holding standards

Manage prep organization, station readiness, and line communication

Assist with ordering, inventory, and food cost accountability

Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and health code standards

W H A T  W E ’ R E  LO O K I N G  F O R

3+ years of experience in fine dining kitchens

Strong foundation in classical French cuisine and technique

Experience in a sous chef or senior chef de partie roleA calm, focused presence under pressure — you set the tone

High standards, genuine pride in the craft, and low ego

Strong communication and team leadership skills

Culinary degree a plus but not required — your kitchen record speaks for itself

C O M P E N S A T I O N & S C H E D U L E

Salary: $70,000–$75,000 commensurate with experience

Schedule: 5 days per week, closing shifts
