Part of Restaurants by Chef Salvatore Lamboglia
This fall, chef and restaurateur Sal Lamboglia is set to open Bar Ferdinando in Carroll Gardens, taking over the former home of Ferdinando’s Focacceria; a neighborhood institution that has operated for more than 120 years. The new project will carry forward elements of the original while introducing a more contemporary take on Italian American Aperitivo.
Lamboglia, known for his work at Cafe Spaghetti, Swoony’s and Sal Tangs, plans to preserve parts of the old space, including original artwork, as a nod to its long history. At the same time, he’s making thoughtful updates to bring new energy to the Union Street location.
Bar Ferdinando will also feature a cocktail-forward program led by Ricardo Echeverri (formerly of Swoony’s), focused on Italian-leaning drinks and inventive takes on classics including a reimagined version of the Manhattan Special.
Giovanna Cucolo, Lamboglia’s managing partner across all three of his restaurants, will oversee front-of-house operations. Her role continues a collaborative dynamic the two have established at Cafe Spaghetti, Swoony’s and Sal Tangs, with an emphasis on approachable hospitality and neighborhood-driven service.
While Bar Ferdinando represents a departure from the unpretentious, old-world feel of the original Focacceria, it’s designed as a true neighborhood bar — one that honors the spirit of its predecessor while adapting to the way people gather, eat, and drink in Brooklyn today.
