Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Catering Captain / Assistant Banquet Manager to lead our front-of-house teams during events. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for delivering seamless, high-touch service for 50–400+ guest events. You will supervise servers, bartenders, coat check, and door staff while working closely with the kitchen and event management teams.
What You’ll Do
• Lead and supervise front-of-house teams (servers, bartenders, runners, coat check, and greeters) during full event cycles — from setup to breakdown
• Conduct pre-event briefings, assign stations, and ensure all staff are trained and prepared
• Oversee service flow for plated dinners, buffets, cocktail receptions, and custom setups
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, timing, and guest satisfaction
• Troubleshoot and resolve any service issues in real time with calm, decisive leadership
• Partner with the Banquet Manager on staffing needs, training programs, and post-event recaps
• Enforce all safety, sanitation, and liquor service protocols (ServSafe/TIPS compliance)
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and mentoring new front-of-house talent
• Step in as needed to support service (running food/drinks, bussing, etc.) during peak moments
What We’re Looking For
• 3+ years of progressive experience in upscale catering, banquet, or hotel event operations
• Prior leadership experience (Captain or Supervisor level) strongly preferred
• Exceptional knowledge of fine-dining service standards, wine & cocktail service, and event pacing
• Strong organizational and communication skills — you thrive under pressure
• Professional appearance, positive attitude, and a true passion for hospitality
• Reliable transportation and high availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
• ServSafe Food Handler and TIPS (or equivalent) certifications required (or must obtain within 30 days)
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
