SHIA Restaurant, by Chef Edward Lee in Washington D.C., is a nonprofit, modern Korean fine dining restaurant redefining the industry. We offer an exceptional fine dining experience with a weekly tasting menu featuring the finest Hansik ingredients. Position: Host
As the Host, you are the first and last point of contact for our guests. You are responsible for managing the dining room flow and ensuring a high level of service from the moment a reservation is made until the guest departs. This role requires a professional who is organized, tech-savvy, and deeply committed to the mission of thoughtful, intentional hospitality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily seating plan and guest flow using OpenTable to ensure a smooth service.
- Monitor and respond to guest communications daily, handling inquiries regarding reservations, allergies, and dietary concerns.
- Greet and seat guests with warmth, ensuring they are introduced to the SHIA experience.
- Coordinate with the service team to communicate guest needs and timing in real-time.
- Maintain the entrance and guest areas, ensuring menus and amenities are stocked and presentable.
- Handwrite thank-you cards and assemble sustainable gift bags for departing guests.
- Assist with phone inquiries and reservation logistics efficiently.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in a host or guest-facing role within a fine dining or reputable full-service restaurant.
- Strong proficiency with OpenTable or similar reservation management systems.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain professional composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and neat, legible handwriting for guest correspondence.
- Alignment with SHIA’s mission of sustainability and community-centered hospitality.
Full-time availability:
- Tuesday through Saturday, 2:30 PM until close (typically 10 PM).
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and move through a busy dining room comfortably.
- Work Location: On-site at our Union Market location
