THE OPPORTUNITY 

The Sommelier position at Casa Cruz New York is responsible for the selling and upkeep of the wine program. This role will motivate and mentor staff’s wine knowledge and commit themselves to fostering an environment of excellence in food, wine and service. The Sommelier will also act as an ambassador of the wine program of CCNY by ensuring that each guest receives the best service and guidance/information regarding their wine selection.  This role will mostly be in the tip pool on the floor but will also have admin hours.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Responsible for the wine list/inventory. Ensuring that the 86’d and low count list is updated on daily/weekly basis. 
  • Maintain coordination with table pacing, and section maintenance in conjunction with servers and managers. 
  • Work in conjunction with the Beverage Director, the General Manager and the Executive Chef to create food and wine pairings. 
  • Present wine list to the guest, answer questions and make suggestions regarding wine. 
  • Ensure appropriate glassware is being used for each wine. 
  • Be pleasant, conscientious, and professional with excellent knowledge of food and alcoholic beverage selections, and service standards.  
  • Operate effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and ensure smooth service operations and quality service 
  • Show a strong menu knowledge: you should be able to recognize every dish and to answer to basic guest questions as well as presenting the dishes to the guests. 
  • In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform occasionally some supportive functions of service, including and not limited to taking food orders. 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Prior experience working as a sommelier in a fine dining restaurant is required.  
  • High school or equivalent education is preferred.  
  • Wine Certification is preferred. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ hospitality and wine program experience is required.  
  • Previous fine dining hospitality experience preferred in establishment of similar caliber. 
  • Able to speak, read, write in clear English.  
  • Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis. 
  • Knowledge and experience with managing inventory and beverage costing is preferred. 
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of planning and forecasting. 
  • Able to use relevant computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite, Toast).

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($11.35) plus tips

Estimated Weekly Tips: $1,500.00

Casa Cruz New York is located in a six-story beaux arts townhouse on 61st Street, between Park and Madison Avenue. Designed by Juan Santa Cruz, it’s the perfect place for eating, drinking, socializing and have fun under one roof. Casa Cruz New York, with the highest level of personalized service and engaging atmosphere is set to be hottest opening in New York City this fall. The ground, second and third floors will operate as a normal restaurant open to the public with priority to the partners, while the drawing room on the fourth floor, the private dining rooms on the fifth floor, and the rooftop terrace will be for exclusive use of our partners and their friends and families. Casa Cruz New York has 220 seats across the five floors and will be open from 12pm-1am for lunch, dinner and after dinner drinks.
