About Us

The Tomato Shack Salad & Pizza Co. is a vibrant, community-driven and multi-unit restaurant in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We take pride in crafting exceptional salads, pizzas, and more, and we're looking for an experienced General Manager to lead our Manayunk location team and take our operations to the next level.

The Opportunity

We're hiring a hands-on, experienced General Manager who thrives in a fast-paced restaurant environment and is passionate about leading teams, delivering outstanding guest experiences, and driving profitability. You'll be the face of The Tomato Shack, deeply involved in every aspect of daily operations.

Compensation Package

Base Salary: $70,000 annually, structured as follows:

  • $60,000 per year base salary
  • $10,000 in scorecard-based performance salary 

Performance Bonuses — Up to $27,200 per year:

  • Up to $18,200/year — Labor Bonus
  • Up to $6,000/year — Service Bonus
  • Up to $3,000/year — Cost of Goods Bonus

Benefits: $6,300 in healthcare contributions

  • $1,800/year contribution toward health insurance premiums (including vision)
  • Up to $500/year toward dental insurance premium coverage
  • Free shift meals valued at $4,000/year

Total package potential: Up to $103,500 annually. Realistically, earnings well above $80,000 are very achievable with strong performance. This is a starting package with room for growth over time, and tremendous earning potential for high performers.

What You'll Do

Lead the Operation

  • Oversee all daily restaurant operations, including staffing, catering, and service
  • Delegate tasks, enforce company checklists, and ensure deadlines are met
  • Maintain the lowest possible prime cost (labor + materials)
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures and company policies are followed
  • Complete the "Ops Agenda" and "Restaurant Tour" consistently during all shifts

Build and Develop the Team

  • Source, screen, interview, hire, and onboard all new team members
  • Create schedules that ensure appropriate staffing across all shifts
  • Train and develop BOH staff for food consistency and FOH staff for outstanding customer service
  • Foster a strong, respectful culture and a welcoming work environment
  • Create career paths for team members to grow within the company

Own the Guest Experience

  • Serve as the "face" of The Tomato Shack — frequently greeting and engaging with guests
  • Ensure customer satisfaction is always the highest priority
  • Follow up with guests who had less-than-ideal experiences
  • Analyze feedback and implement improvements

Handle the Business Side

  • Submit thorough, substantiated bi-weekly scorecards - tasks that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position
  • Review daily cash-outs for accuracy and verify all paperwork
  • Research vendor pricing and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Maintain and improve all company checklists and documentation

Get Involved in the Community

  • Represent The Tomato Shack at community business group meetings and events
  • Act as the point person for all promotional and community events
  • Suggest and lead in-store promotions and monthly specials

Be Ready for Anything

  • Step in during staffing shortages or emergencies — kitchen, front of house, or catering
  • Be proficient in kitchen operations and capable of jumping in when needed
  • Monitor health and safety compliance as the "Last Line of Defense" for the location

Drive Innovation

  • Create, sample, and test new menu items; aid in menu development with cost-based pricing recommendations
  • Seek regular feedback from all staff to drive engagement
  • Continuously suggest ideas to improve efficiency and SOPs

  • Proven experience as a General Manager or senior manager in a restaurant setting
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Financial acumen — comfortable analyzing P&L, labor costs, and food costs
  • Commitment to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively under pressure
  • Proactive problem solver with a hands-on mentality
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
