Job Title: Aquatics Manager

Position Summary

The Aquatics Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operation, safety, and programming of Bryn Mawr’s aquatic facilities. This role oversees daily pool operations, lifeguard and swim staff management, aquatic programming, member satisfaction, member lessons, and regulatory compliance. The Aquatics Manager ensures a safe, welcoming, and high-quality aquatic experience that aligns with the club’s service standards and member expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Bryn Mawr Pool Operations & Safety

  • Oversee daily operations of all aquatic facilities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce pool safety policies and emergency action plans.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and address maintenance or safety concerns promptly with the club maintenance team.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and engineering teams on water quality, equipment upkeep, and facility repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of pool chemical readings, incident reports, and safety drills.

Staff Leadership & Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise all seasonal lifeguard staff.
  • Ensure all aquatic staff maintain required certifications (lifeguard, CPR/AED, first aid, water safety).
  • Lead regular staff trainings, in-services, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a professional, service-oriented, and safety-focused team culture.
  • Manage staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage during all operating hours and special events.
  • Enforce club policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

Programming & Member Experience

  • Plan, develop, and oversee aquatic programming (Swim lessons).
  • Collaborate with other departments to support club-wide events and youth programming.
  • Monitor and enhance member satisfaction through engagement, feedback, and service recovery.
  • Address member questions, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly pool environment.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and managing the aquatics budget, including labor, supplies, and programming revenue.
  • Monitor payroll, overtime, and staffing costs to stay within budgeted guidelines.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with insurance requirements and risk management best practices.
  • Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and member concerns.
  • Coordinate emergency response procedures and drills.
  • Stay current on industry standards and aquatic safety trends.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in recreation management, sports management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in aquatic facility management or a supervisory role.
  • Experience in a private club, resort, or hospitality environment strongly preferred.

Certifications (Required or Ability to Obtain)

  • Lifeguard Red Cross Certification & CPR/AED Certification
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • First Aid Certification
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or equivalent (preferred or required within a set timeframe)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and member-relations abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of aquatic safety practices and pool operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, basic budgeting, and reporting.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
