Sandwich Line Cook / Prep Cook
Prequel Cafe — West Town, Chicago
Full-Time | Weekend availability required
Prequel Cafe is a quality-driven neighborhood cafe focused on thoughtful food, efficient service, and a well-organized kitchen. Our menu is prep- and service-forward, with a strong emphasis on consistency, cleanliness, and execution during busy cafe hours.
We’re hiring a Sandwich Line Cook / Prep Cook to support daily food prep, sandwich assembly, station organization, and overall kitchen flow. This role is hands-on and service-facing, ideal for someone who is solid on the line, works cleanly, and takes pride in doing things the right way.
Core Responsibilities-
Prep and assemble sandwiches, toasts, bagels, and cafe menu items to standard

Execute daily prep lists accurately, efficiently, and on time

Set up, maintain, and break down the sandwich/food line for service

Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary workstations at all times

Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen upkeep as part of a shared team effort

Label, date, rotate, and organize refrigeration and dry storage

Communicate prep needs, low inventory, and issues clearly across shifts

Work efficiently during peak service hours while maintaining quality

Complete proper closing duties and weekly deep-cleaning tasks

1–2+ years experience as a line cook, prep cook, or cafe kitchen role

Comfortable with repetition, service pace, and structured systems

Strong attention to detail and respect for standards and recipes

Organized, dependable, and able to work independently when needed

Team-oriented with a calm, professional attitude during busy shifts

Weekend availability required

ServSafe certified or willing to obtain certification

Consistent full-time hours

Compensation Details
Compensation: Hourly ($18.00 - $21.00)
