La Fournaise is a new French bakery, third wave coffee shop, and French grocery, open since October 2025, from the team behind pioneering Créole restaurant Maloya. We offer high quality pastries, coffee & tea, and hard-to-find French groceries to our community in Bushwick.
Job Summary
We are looking for reliable, kind, and service-minded individuals to join our team at La Fournaise. As a barista, you will be the face of our brand and the center of our guest experience, responsible for making consistent, quality coffee and tea beverages, serving our pastries with care, and maintaining a friendly and welcoming environment. For this role, we are seeking both part-time and full-time candidates with weekend availability.
The ideal candidate will have a kind and engaging personality, excellent punctuality and attendance, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to create high-quality beverages consistently, with a passion and curiosity for food and beverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide warm and welcoming service to our guests
- Prepare and serve high quality coffee and tea beverages with consistency
- Operate and maintain coffee equipment
- Take orders and process payments accurately using our POS system
- Display and serve our pastry selection
- Maintain knowledge of all beverage and pastry offerings, as well as a familiarity with retail selection
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the barista work space, equipment, seating areas, and retail displays
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to management
- Perform all opening and closing procedures
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of barista or café experience preferred
- Knowledge of espresso preparation, milk frothing, and latte art
- Ability to dial in an espresso machine and grinder
- Strong customer service skills with a warm and patient demeanor
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Cash handling skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends and holidays
- Food handler's certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
