Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio, located in Chicago's bustling West Loop neighborhood, is a busy and modern Italian restaurant looking for its next great team member. Monteverde has consistently been named one of Chicago's "38 Essential Restaurants" by Eater, won the 2018 Jean Banchet Award for "Restaurant of the Year", and in 2017 our Chef Sarah Grueneberg received the James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef: Great Lakes".

We are currently hiring for Wine Manager, a position that helps to oversee the restaurant’s wine program and assist in all other Front of House Manager operations. This position helps oversee the restaurant’s daily service, operational and administrative tasks, including all guest relations and safety.  This position motivates, trains, develops and directs the front of house employees to accomplish the objectives of the restaurant. We are currently open Tuesday-Saturday for lunch and dinner service; we are CLOSED Sunday and Monday.

Duties and Tasks, not limited to the following:

  • Manage the restaurant’s wine program in full, in coordination with owners. This includes wine list procurement, ordering, inventory, financial management, and more.
  • Have a full understanding of the restaurant’s menus, both food and beverage.
  • Assist in oversight of entire front of house team and lead in its wine knowledge training, including the development of training materials and testing. Assist the Owners with hiring, performance reviews, revision of job descriptions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Be willing to address the staff as a whole at daily pre-shift meetings and in various training sessions required for operations.
  • Have the ability to jump into any front of house position when needed.
  • Adhere to and ensure staff adheres to cleaning and safety standards of the restaurant.
  • Build an awareness of food allergy safety, including what allergens are present in what dishes at all times and training hourly staff on allergy safety.
  • Help oversee the execution of private events in or outside of the restaurant.
  • Ensure all needs of the operation are met to operate properly.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Wine Manager for at least 2 years at a high caliber restaurant with frequent menu changes.
  • Experience with Resy and Toast, or similar reservation and POS software.
  • Experience with R365 or similar restaurant accounting software
  • Strong leadership ability and confidence.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Previous Sanitation and Alcohol safety training.
  • Computer skills and experience.
  • Creative problem solving ability.
  • Passion for what you do.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
  • Walk; use hands or fingers, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($65,000.00 - $80,000.00)
