Front of House Manager

Immediate start.  SPACE 519 | The Lunchroom is looking for a Front of House Manager who has a love and passion for the hospitality industry.  We offer a small team where all member’s contributions are valued.  This is a DAYTIME POSITION – no regular nighttime hours.

The Lunchroom sits inside SPACE 519, recently featured in The New York Times, one of Chicago’s top fashion and lifestyle destinations.  Located just off Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, SPACE 519 is a small luxury department store featuring The Lunchroom, a 40-seat breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch restaurant with an all-day café.  The Lunchroom is winner of “OpenTable’s Diner’s Choice”, Chicago Magazine’s ‘Hot List’ and Modern Luxury ‘Brunch Buzz’.

This role will ensure every meal and every moment exceeds expectations for the store’s upscale clientele.

Additionally, this position will:

  • Hold all team members accountable to high stands of both food and service.
  • Develop systems and procedures to improve operations within the restaurant.
  • Manage costs, drive sales, and develop strategies to grow business in support of financial goals.
  • Proactively market incentives and promotions to drive covers and build takeout and grab & go business.
  • Support restaurant goals in all areas of operations to achieve the desired volume growth and optimum profits.
  • Develop and implement marketing programs for off-site catering and special events.
  • Control costs by monitoring expenditures, identifying variances and minimizing waste.
  • Work with owners and other managers in developing and driving guest outreach, communication and marketing efforts, including the coordination of special and private events.
  • Accomplish restaurant HR objectives by selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees. Clearly communicate job expectations and developmental feedback; adhere to and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in service, ensuring all guests are well taken care of. Create and build relationships with regular and industry guests.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years hospitality experience with a minimum of 2 years being in a similar role in a comparable environment; demonstrated ability to succeed in a position where food quality, preparation and presentation is paramount (understand fine dining); past success in achieving revenue goals; impeccable attention to detail and the ability to not only identify a problem, but determine an effective solution and action plan to solve it.
