The Wine Steward will manage a restaurant's wine program, creating lists, curating cellar inventory, and guiding guests on selections, pairings, and proper service to enhance dining, involving extensive wine knowledge, sales skills, and inventory management in a fine dining setting. Key duties include wine procurement/storage, staff training, suggesting wines to complement menus, and ensuring responsible, high-quality service, requiring deep understanding of regions, vintages, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Wine Curation & Management: Develop and update wine lists, manage cellar inventory (procurement, storage, rotation), and ensure proper handling.
- Guest Service & Sales: Advise guests on wine choices, suggest pairings with food, upsell premium selections, and serve wines at correct temperatures.
- Staff Training: Educate servers and bartenders on wine knowledge, service standards, and suggestive selling techniques.
- Operations: Maintain wine lists in POS systems, manage glassware, conduct tastings, and ensure compliance with liquor laws.
