Raf’s, the second restaurant from the team behind the Musket Room is a French and Italian bakery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Modeled after a European style Grand Café, Raf’s is the type of neighborhood haunt you can find on nearly every corner in Paris. To serve our neighbors and visitors we plan to offer a daily rotation of French- and Italian-inspired baked goods, as well as an all-day café and intimate dinner service where they can feel at home—whether for a solo coffee, a business lunch or an evening out with friends. 

POSITION SUMMARY:
Raf's is looking for a passionate, kind and thoughtful Maitre D to join our team! The Maitre D’ at Raf's plays a lead role in guest relations and the restaurant’s door operations.

We are looking for an individual who is committed to creating a loyal group of regulars, has a great understanding of how to manage a guest book and enjoys the challenge of seating a buzzy dining room.  In addition to being a leader at the door, there will be additional administrative tasks including email and phone correspondence with guests.

This position is great for you if:

  • Are organized with your emails and have excellent written skills
  • Are an excellent verbal communicator and can lead small teams
  • You think on your feet and have strong problem solving skills
  • Can develop a good rapport and personal relationship with guests
  • Are someone who has a great memory for names and faces
  • Have experience in a Maitre D position at another 2+ NY Times or Michelin related restaurant

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($23.00) plus tips

Located at the intersection of NoHo, Nolita and the Bowery, Raf’s will open in the historic Parisi Bakery building. This century-old space—originally opened as “Angie’s French-Italian Bakery” in 1933—boasts both a longstanding reputation as an Italian bakery, as well as built-in bread ovens dating back to the 1930s. The ovens, immaculately preserved, offer a unique opportunity for not only baking, but also a hearth-driven menu of such dishes as cast iron sfincione (Sicilian pizza), saffron-scented mussels and dry-aged cote de bôef.

We are a female-owned and operated independent restaurant group. Raf's takes on the task of reinventing and restoring an iconic Italian bakery with 100 year old hearths. In true New York fashion, Raf's defies a singular conception (bakery, café, bar, restaurant, call it what you will) that honors the tradition and elegance of the European haunt but with a healthy dose of irreverent formality, a contradiction that is uniquely New York. It is, in New York fashion, an irreverent by-product of layered history, its neighborhood, and a legacy of progressive institutions.

Our aim is to provide a warm yet lively hospitality experience at our bakery and restaurant, while paying homage to the history of our uniquely “New York” space and appealing to the locals and passersby who frequent the neighborhood today.
