Job Details

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our upscale dining team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of wine varieties, food pairings, and customer service excellence. As a Sommelier, you will enhance the dining experience by providing expert wine recommendations, managing wine inventory, and ensuring exceptional service in a fine dining environment. This role requires a professional with strong sales skills, culinary knowledge, and a dedication to food safety standards.

Duties

  • Curate and maintain an extensive wine list aligned with menu offerings and customer preferences
  • Assist guests in selecting wines that complement their meals through expert recommendations and upselling techniques
  • Serve wine bottles and glasses with proper presentation and etiquette
  • Manage wine inventory, including ordering, stock rotation, and storage compliance
  • Collaborate with culinary staff on menu planning and pairing suggestions
  • Provide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming atmosphere and addressing guest inquiries promptly
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar and service areas
  • Support banquet and catering events with specialized wine service as needed
  • Handle POS transactions accurately using systems such as Aloha POS or Micros POS
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards during handling, serving, and storage of beverages

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fine dining establishments or food service environments, including serving or bartending roles
  • Strong knowledge of wines, food pairing principles, and menu planning
  • Experience with POS systems such as Aloha POS or Micros POS is preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to upsell effectively
  • Background in culinary arts or food industry experience is a plus
  • Food safety certification or knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
  • Previous banquet experience or catering background is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and a personable demeanor
  • Prior experience with cash handling, cashiering, or food preparation is desirable
