Job Details

She Wolf Bakery is seeking a full time pastry cook for our Brooklyn Navy Yard location. Our pastry program is based on using local, stone-milled whole grains, seasonal local produce and
NYS dairy and eggs. We are a high volume, fast paced kitchen so we are looking for a motivated person that loves their work and can do a lot in a day. Experience in a kitchen is preferred but we are willing to train someone with good organizational skills and a sense of urgency. This is a full time, 40 hour per week position with early morning availability. We offer regular schedules but not permanent ones, so some amount of flexibility is required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Pastry production and bake off
  • Daily ingredient/stock management
  • Maintain a clean kitchen and equipment.
  • Adhere to all policies outlined in the Marlow Collective Handbook.
  • Attend all anti-discrimination, sexual harassment, etc. training as instructed by the Marlow Collective.
  • Contribute to a highly cooperative and positive work environment, supporting others in successes and setbacks

While performing the duties of the job, a pastry & prepared foods cook is regularly required to stand and walk; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. They must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The Marlow Collective wage band for this position is set at $18.50- $22.50

Starting rate of pay is $19/hr or $20/hr depending on experience.

After a 90-day introductory period, all employees receive a review of their performance and pay.

We started baking bread in 2009 in the wood oven at Roman's. After dinner service, we would make a fire. Early in the morning, our baker Austin Hall would come in, rake out the coals and bake bread for the day.

This bread became a part of Roman’s at every service and staff meal. Soon the chefs at Marlow & Sons and Diner wanted to bring the same quality and integrity to the bread they served.

We expanded bread production to our own space in Greenpoint, and now supply the bread served at all of our restaurants and others around the city. You can also purchase loaves to take home at Marlow & Daughters, Stranger Wines, Roman’s, and Achilles Heel, as well as at eight NYC Greenmarkets.

In 2023, we were recognized as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s inaugural “Outstanding Bakery” award.
