Our most effective service to our community comes from a team with a diverse mix of minds, backgrounds, and experiences. 16 On Center actively seeks a diverse applicant pool and encourages candidates of all backgrounds to apply. We provide equal opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment, without regard to race, religion, color, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, neurodiversity, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Position Summary

As the Assistant General Manager at Moneygun, this role oversees all bar employees and daily operations in support of the General Manager. The AGM is a direct supervisor and key resource for the bar team, providing guidance and hands-on assistance during service while using our mission and guiding principles to shape decisions and culture, and is also involved in menu development and event curation alongside the GM, Beverage Director, and Shared Services team.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership

  • Be the guiding force behind the bar staff, offering mentorship when possible and clear direction when needed to keep the team on task and strengthening their bar skills.
  • Serve as a standard bearer for the Moneygun brand. You are the host of the party during service, ensuring all hourly staff bring the same FOH “hospitotally” and swagger.
  • Maintain a professional, consistent presence that sets the tone for the entire team.
  • Work with the GM and 16OC Beverage Director to execute monthly training sessions that build the knowledge and skill set of the bar team.
  • Maintain clear communication between kitchen, bar prep, and staff to ensure everyone is prepared for service.

Financials

  • Analyze financial data to adjust menu offerings and flag unusual trends.
  • Maintain cost controls across COGS, labor, and comps/shrinkage in alignment with company expectations and targets.
  • Support and build relationships with brands and distributors as partnerships develop.

Operations

  • Run great shifts. Lead the team as MOD for 4–5 shifts per week (a mix of opens and closes), completing manager checklists and resolving issues quickly as they arise.
  • Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory procedures, involving staff where appropriate.
  • Assist the GM with scheduling, ensuring schedules are posted with at least two weeks’ notice.
  • Keep all SOP guides and operational documents up to date.
  • Ensure smooth, consistent bar opening and closing procedures, with responsibilities shared evenly among the team.
  • Oversee organization and upkeep of the liquor room, prep area, coolers, and bar areas.
  • Attend weekly manager meetings and follow all assigned tasks through to completion.
  • Lead the preparation and execution of beverage components for private events.
  • Ensure appropriate representation of each bar concept at offsite events and competitions.
  • Work directly with beverage partners to execute activations (holidays, menu placements, takeovers, etc.).
  • Foster partnerships and develop activations in both spaces to drive sales and support the bottom line.
  • Continuously identify operational improvement opportunities, set deadlines, and follow them through to completion.

About You:

  • You have 3+ years of experience managing people in a busy, fast-paced bar environment, ideally with a strong cocktail focus.
  • You’re comfortable leading nighttime MOD shifts and being a steady presence during peak service hours.
  • You bring a proven track record of developing creative, efficient, and profitable beverage menus.
  • You care about building community, within your team, across the venue, and with guests.
  • You have experience hiring, training, and developing staff, and you enjoy helping people grow.
  • You’ve created SOPs or operational systems before and understand how to keep a bar running smoothly.
  • Familiarity with Toast POS is a plus, but not required.
  • This role requires extended periods of standing and walking, as well as the ability to lift and move product and supplies as needed.

Part of 16 On Center

Together, Bruce Finkelman and Craig Golden formed 16” on Center (16OC), a hospitality collective taking on projects and buildings in neighborhoods where they can’t wait to hang out. Each restaurant, bar and venue within the collective is a stand alone business but 16OC exists to provide support and services to strengthen each and every one.

The name 16” on Center is the construction term for a center mark that creates the strongest build, which is how we approach each project: creating the highest quality places that are meant to last. From Evanston to Hyde Park, our venues, bars and restaurants draw Chicagoans out of their homes, enabling them to be part of their neighborhoods.
