Job Details

Elizabeth is a new French restaurant and wine bar located on iconic Wharf Street in downtown Portland, Maine, slated to open in March 2026. It is an intimate, sexy and cozy space where people luxuriate in forward thinking, innovative French classics accented by low intervention French wines and reinvented French cocktails. Duncan Biddulph, former executive chef of Lula Cafe, Publican, and Rootstock (Chicago) and Ashley Robinson, former head baker of The Bakery at Fat Rice (also Chicago), have been hired to helm the food program. The restaurant will house 36 seats and be open five days per week. Elizabeth is seeking a Beverage Director/GM. Candidates will have at least three years experience working as a Beverage Director and two years experience working as a GM. Candidates should possess an extensive knowledge of French wines and be comfortable with cocktail construction and execution. Must love tiny, tight-knit, hardworking teams! (Possibility of expanding this role to writing and overseeing the Crown Jewel beverage program.) www.elizabethwharfstreet.com


Duties include but are not limited to:

planning wine menu

calculating and overseeing beverage costing and budgeting

managing beverage inventory

ordering all wines, spirits and beers

ensuring compliance with alcoholic beverage regulations

implementing and enforcing restaurant-wide systems, policies and procedures

maintaining appearance of the staff and dining room

enforcing strict cleanliness in all beverage and dining areas

hiring and training FOH staff

organizing FOH schedules

ensuring exceptional customer service throughout all aspects of the elizabeth

experience

handling and resolving customer complaints with respect, courtesy and

effectiveness

conducting FOH performance evaluations

handling discipline and termination of FOH employees
