Barista

Job Description:

Scratchboard Kitchen is looking for baristas who want to do more than just make coffee. We’re seeking someone with interest in learning about cocktails and wine, who’s ready to bring creativity to the table, collaborate with our kitchen team, and help shape a beverage program rooted in seasonal, farm-sourced ingredients.

If you love being hands-on, contributing ideas, and making things from scratch, this is your chance to be part of something thoughtful and special. Our hours are flexible and ideal for college students or anyone looking to grow in a collaborative environment.

Hours of Operation:
Tuesday to Sunday, 8 am to 8:30pm - a morning shift and a night shift

Essential Responsibilities:

• Approach every shift with curiosity, creativity, and pride in your craft
• Collaborate with our Chef and kitchen team to execute a from-scratch coffee and bar menu
• Bring ideas to the table for drink specials and seasonal updates
• Work with real ingredients sourced from local farms
• Uplift your Team and contribute to a positive, professional environment
• Be available some mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Saturday night availability is a must
• Work closely with Front and Back of House to deliver amazing guest experiences
• Craft espresso and coffee drinks with precision and care
• Take ownership of guest service and product quality

Preferred, but not required (we will train the right person):

• Bartending or barista experience
• Passion for food and beverage culture
• Restaurant or customer service background
• Strong understanding of espresso and milk steaming
• Positive, proactive attitude with great communication skills
• Interest in growing with a creative and hardworking team

Requirements:

• Must be at least 19 years old to pour alcohol (required for the position)
• Must have Saturday night availability
• A candidate local to Arlington Heights or surrounding suburbs is ideal

Upscale casual restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights serving simple yet elevated scratch-made farm to table fare, coffee, fresh pressed juice, and alcoholic beverages.

Our Vision is for the restaurant to serve as a community gathering place for family and friends to comfortably enjoy time together while sharing a carefully crafted and beautifully presented meal. Although the focus will be on the dine-in experience, a coffee bar/counter will also allow for take-out service where patrons can grab coffee, fresh pressed juice, kombucha, and other breakfast items. The space provides a cozy yet refined environment, consisting of warm, earthy tones to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Our goal for the menu is to provide upgraded classic favorites made primarily from organic, locally sourced ingredients.
