Kiln, a two-star Michelin tasting menu restaurant in San Francisco, is seeking a part-time Host to join our Service Team. This position requires holiday and weekend availability, with the occasional on-call shift, and typically offers 2–3 shifts per week. Though part-time, this role offers room for growth and the potential to evolve into a full-time position.
The Host is the first and last point of contact for each guest and plays a vital role in contributing to the rhythm of service at Kiln. Before service, responsibilities include organizing the lounge area, preparing the reception desk and maintaining the entryway and hallway areas. During service, the Host oversees guest intake and lounge service, manages communication with guests and the GM, maintains cleanliness and flow in the entryway, hallway, and washrooms, and ensures each interaction and reflects care and attention to detail. The role also involves handling guest amenities such as take-home menus and polaroid photos, and supporting the service team as needed to maintain smooth operations -- including but not exclusive to coffee service, clearing, marking and running food. Closing duties are performed in alignment with company policy and standards.
Ideal candidates are organized, communicative, and calm under pressure, with a natural sense of hospitality and professionalism. The ability to think critically, multitask, and maintain composure and precision throughout the evening is essential. We value individuals who are trustworthy, ambitious, and team-oriented, with a sincere commitment to teamwork, guest experience and maintaining the flow of service.
All service staff are required to know the entire menu, including food presentations and details on the preparation of the menu (verbiage), and are expected to approach this as an opportunity to learn and grow within a passionate, tight-knit team.
Previous fine dining or hosting experience and wine knowledge are encouraged but not required; we are happy to train the right person who demonstrates curiosity, poise, and dedication to learning.
Schedule: Fridays & Saturdays (and Tuesday - Thursday as needed), with Sundays and Mondays off, plus annual closures.
Compensation: Pay begins at $25/hour, with additional pooled tips distributed among eligible staff members.
If interested, please reply to this posting with a cover letter and your resume. We look forward to hearing from you.
