With a robust wine and cocktail list and a neighborhood friendly restaurant menu, gertrude's is a go-to spot in the area for a delicious casual meal.
The General Manager drives success by overseeing the entire Front of Staff and the forward-facing parts of the business. The General Manager is the primary point of contact for every Front of House staff member as well as the day-to-day example of our culture to our entire staff.
The GM will work with the Director of Operations to ensure the organizing, training, scheduling, and leadership necessary to achieve goals in sales, costs, employee retention and development, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, and facilities maintenance. This position will assist the Human Resources Director in critical areas of compliance related to the employee life cycle, compensation, and benefits.
The GM should be a focused and strong leader who strives to continuously improve the restaurant by implementing systems, upholding company culture by fostering a warm and positive work environment, and setting a strong example of mentorship and development through positive reinforcement. They should also be committed to learning and improving through continuous education and self-development along with a commitment to coaching and developing the Front of House staff and earning the trust and respect of all members of the restaurant.
Essential Duties Include (but not limited to):
- Opening and closing the restaurant, as needed
- Assisting with disposables and small goods ordering, keeping storage areas clean, organized, and labled
- Supervising the dining room and ensuring each guest has a great experience; upholding a high level of hospitality, utilizing Resy to create new reservations, seat existing reservations, making relevant guest notes, and adjusting future reservations, and ensuring adherence to cost control procedures, such as voids, discounts, comps, etc.
- Maintain cleanliness in accordance with the Health Department and restaurant standards
- Maintaining a strong knowledge of our wine, beer, and cocktails. Assist on the floor answering beverage related questions
- Managing and maintaining social media accounts, working with necessary parties to keep accounts up to date
- Ensuring the financial sustainability of the restaurant, and driving profitability by actively pursuing revenue generating initiatives and cost cutting mechanisms
- Maintaining a functioning, clean and safe work environment for employees and guests, upholding all Department of Health & Labor standards, with the expectation of always maintaining an “A” rating with the DOH
- With the DOO and Director of Human Resources, assist in hiring, motivating, and management of all Front of House staff
- Cultivating and preserving a positive culture, putting employees first
- Establishing, maintaining, and changing (when necessary) policies and systems as they pertain to service, accounting, human resources, training, and employee development
- Effectively and appropriately communicating with staff, guests, purveyors, and investors
- Fostering the financial sustainability of the restaurant and driving profitability by actively pursuing revenue generating initiatives and cost cutting mechanisms including (but not limited to):
- Front of House labor costs
- Direct operating costs
- Working with ownership to produce and understand budgeting, revenue forecasting, and financial models
- Working with ownership and accounting team to maintain, analyze, and understand weekly, monthly, and yearly, reports, including weekly sales journals and monthly Profit and Loss statements
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Climbing steps regularly
