About:

Maydan Market has opened in LA’s West Adams neighborhood, the first West Coast project by Rose Previte, Founder of DC’s Michelin-starred Maydan, Compass Rose, Medina, and Kirby Club restaurants. Maydan in DC first opened in 2017 drawing critical acclaim as Best New Restaurant in Bon Appetit, FOOD & WINE, and GQ, nominated by the James Beard Foundation for both Best New Restaurant and Outstanding Wine Program, and earning a Michelin star. Compass Rose opened in 2014 winning the RAMMY for best casual restaurant in the nation’s capital and one of the Washington Post’s “Favorite Places to Eat.” 


This new 10,000-square-foot market will be a home for small businesses to flourish, anchored by a live fire hearth, like its DC namesake restaurant. Inspired by markets from around the world, Maydan Market will bring diverse gems together under one roof including a Maydan restaurant and bar; Compass Rose, an indoor/outdoor patio bar with bites, cocktails, and natural wine; and will be home to five Los Angeles food businesses each with their own distinctive cuisine and critical acclaim.

Position: Bartender - Compass Rose LA 


Pay: Minimum wage plus tips


Reports To: FOH management 


Purpose: The Compass Rose bar team is responsible for the guest experience and bar operations.  Every bartender exemplifies the culture and service of No White Plates through enthusiasm, work ethic, product knowledge, and an eagerness to create memorable bar and cocktail experiences.  

 

 

Who You Are: 

  • Four (4) years of experience in the direction and experience in a similar environment 
  • Deep knowledge of global food, spirits, and wine
  • Strong background operating in cocktail and bar programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills
  • High-level organizational skills with multi-tasking capabilities 
  • Experience in craft cocktails and volume bartending.  
  • Dependable, highly motivated and high attention to detail and follow through. 
  • Passion for the f&b industry and a commitment to delivering outstanding cocktails and service.
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • View setbacks and challenges as learning opportunities and a chance to enhance performance.
  • Coffee experience a plus
  • RBS Certified
  • Food Handler’s Card


What You Do: 

  • Work with Beverage Director and FOH management to operate the bar to the No White Plate’s standard following all company SOPs
  • Actively monitor food and beverage quality at the bar to ensure adherence with the company’s standards. Provide timely feedback to managers and help lead action to correct any issues when needed. 
  • Regularly observe the service well to ensure it is operating efficiently and consistently maintaining cocktail quality standards and timeliness. 
  • Understand - at expert level - all aspects of the company’s cocktail production. Continuously observe, evaluate, and correct as necessary all aspects of cocktail production, including recipe adherence, ingredient quality, storage, and equipment maintenance. 
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of our food and wine menus
  • Verify and conduct, when necessary, reach in, walk in, and any other bar storage checks and production walks. Ensure both are being completed in compliance with the company’s systems and standards. 
  • Ensure the facility is properly maintained including food safety and sanitation.
  • Actively monitor all bar areas (dining room, bar, kitchen, storage areas) to ensure systems are being followed and guests are enjoying their experience. 
  • Identify operational issues and system breakdowns. Provide feedback to the management team, and lead corrective action. 
  • Technology and platform use - (GoTab, G-Suite, 7shifts, etc.)
  • Daily Bar prep
  • Actively manage housekeeping systems and opening and closing checklists.
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. 
  • Ensure all new policies and procedures are adopted and executed in the restaurant
  • Work with other FOH team members to provide service to the NWP standard
  • Effectively communicate with management on a consistent basis
  • Represent, support, and protect the brand. 


Physical Requirements

  • Able to work 8-hour plus shifts
  • Able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time
  • Able to grasp, lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Finger/hand dexterity to operate bar tools and knives
  • Able to withstand changes in temperature, steam and heat
  • Able to work in a confined area
  • Must possess hearing, visual and sensory abilities to observe and detect emergency situations; also, to distinguish product, taste, texture, temperature, presentation and preparation
