Role: Pastry Cook
Location: New York City (One Fifth)
Reports to: Executive Chef, Pastry Sous Chef, and Sous Chefs

Position Summary

The Pastry Cook plays a key role in creating the timeless dining experience of Golden Steer NYC. You will prepare and plate desserts to exacting standards, assist in daily pastry production, and contribute to the creativity and consistency of the pastry program. With precision, organization, and teamwork, you’ll help deliver classic and innovative desserts that complement the Golden Steer tradition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pastry Production: Prepare and execute daily mise en place for desserts, breads, and specialty items.

  • Plating & Presentation: Execute dessert plating with consistency, elegance, and timeliness during service.

  • Recipe Execution: Follow standardized recipes and assist with testing new items under the direction of the Pastry Chef.

  • Standards & Consistency: Uphold Golden Steer quality standards in flavor, texture, and presentation of every item.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with chefs, line cooks, and servers to ensure smooth service.

  • Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pastry station; follow sanitation protocols at all times.

  • Efficiency & Urgency: Move with purpose and accuracy in a high-volume environment.

Experience & Qualifications (Must-Haves)
  • 2+ years of pastry cook or baking experience in a high-volume, upscale restaurant.

  • Strong technical skills in pastry fundamentals (custards, cakes, doughs, sauces, tempering chocolate, etc.).

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Knowledge of NYC DOH sanitation standards; Food Protection Certificate preferred.

  • Positive attitude, teamwork, and willingness to learn.

  • English required; Spanish a plus.

  • Ability to work opening or closing shifts.
Operations & Compliance
  • Follow all NYC DOH sanitation and safety regulations.

  • Ensure allergy protocols and cross-contact procedures are strictly followed.

Teamwork & Culture
  • Arrive prepared and ready to deliver excellence.

  • Support training of new pastry team members.

  • Represent Golden Steer with professionalism and pride in all interactions.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements
  • Stand and move quickly for 8–10 hours.

  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

  • Nights, weekends, and holidays required.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly rate plus benefits and growth opportunities within a chef-driven, classic steakhouse culture.

  • Final compensation commensurate with experience.
