Barista/Cashier

OVERVIEW 

Mister Cheeks is an all-day café and neighborhood market located in the heart of Carroll Gardens, proudly owned and operated by a local family. We're on the hunt for passionate, creative team members who love great food, warm hospitality, and serving the community as much as we do. Guests can swing by our takeout window for coffee and soft serve ice cream, or step inside to browse a thoughtfully curated spread of house-made eats including pastries, soups,  sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, and seasonal salads. All of which can be enjoyed in our cozy indoor or outdoor seating — or picked up to go. 

JOB SUMMARY

Mister Cheeks is looking for friendly, reliable Barista to join our FOH team. This role is all about warm service, attention to detail, and keeping things running smoothly in a busy, upbeat café environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Greet every guest with warmth and keep service friendly, efficient, and welcoming
• Take orders accurately at the counter or register, answer menu questions, and offer suggestions
• When scheduled, own barista station — preparing and serving coffee, tea, and other beverages 
• Serve grab-and-go items quickly, keeping presentation consistent and appealing
• Handle payments and operate the POS system with accuracy
• Keep the counter, beverage station, and guest areas stocked, clean, and organized throughout the shift
• Restock pastries, takeaway items, and retail products as needed
• Communicate with the kitchen team to coordinate orders and keep service moving smoothly
• Receive and check deliveries, rotate stock, and maintain proper storage for perishables and dry goods
• Jump in to support teammates during busy periods, whether at the register, making drinks, or running food
• Participate in team meetings, tastings, and trainings to stay aligned on menu updates and service standards
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace hygiene standards per NYC Department of Health

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum 2 years of experience in hospitality spaces
• Must have previous barista-training and 1+ years experience in coffee/espresso-service

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Involves standing and walking the entire shift
• Requires using hands to perform daily tasks
• Involves frequent reaching, bending, and lifting
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly during the shift

REPORTS TO: Assistant General Manager

COMPENSATION: $17.00 plus tips

GENERAL WORKING HOURS: 

• Proposed Operating Hours of business: Mon-Fri 8am-7pm; Sat-Sun 8am-5pm
• Schedule TBD
• May include extra hours and working weekends, events, additional hours, or holidays as needed
