General Description
The Floor Sommelier is responsible for providing our guests with a memorable visit to Le Crocodile through exceptional wine knowledge and a warm, positive attitude. Each guest should be guided through their wine selection in a manner consistent with our ethos of providing both outstanding product and services. The guest’s best interest is always our priority, to continue to build new connections and to elevate the dining experience of everyone who walks through our doors. All Floor Sommeliers must be present on the floor for the entire duration of their shifts. When not actively assisting guests with wine selection and service, they will act as an extra set of hands on the dining floor supporting team members from servers to bartenders to support.
Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Ensure positive guest service in all areas, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into regulars.
- Maximize wine sales while elevating guest experience.
- Acts as a point of contact for for all guests, developing repeat and return guests, identifying individuals who are neighbors or visiting diners and/or drinkers possessing a sensibility rewarded by what we offer.
- Helps maintain the organization of wine fridges and cellars.
- Physically present on the floor and acts as support for service team.
- Must be flexible to assist in different areas of service, as business demands; i.e. taking orders, running food and beverages.
- Maximize wine sales in Le Crocodile, both directly by selling wine to tables and indirectly continuous through staff education.
- Work with the Wine Director and service team to sell wine, educate staff about what is on offer, maintain the organization and accuracy of stock in house
- Build enthusiasm amongst staff members to taste, learn, discuss and feel confident about what we sell. Sharing this with guests in a fashion that highlights that product and our commitment to serving it.
- Responsible for answering the room service phone from 5pm through the end of service. This requires in-depth menu knowledge to include allergens, cooking techniques and substitutions on offer.
- Take beverage orders for guests waiting in the lobby and at the counter standing section.
- Maintain an up to date restocking of all wine changes by the glass.
- Update all service menus to reflect the wine changes daily and/or weekly as needed.
- Assist with monthly inventory.
- Contribute and lead wine education at pre-shift.
- Ensure all wine bottles sold are properly rung up in the POS system.
- Keep all wine rooms organized and properly stocked upon delivery.
- Possess food and beverage knowledge equivalent to that of a server or bartender.
- Dress presentably in-line with our uniform and look-book.

- Ability to work as part of the team
- Minimum 1 year experience in the same or equivalent role
- WSET level 2 or equivalent level
- Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy environment
- Ability to lift 40 lbs
