JAMIERI Kafe is the exciting evolution of JAMIERI Studios, originally a showroom celebrating Georgian culture through home décor designs by local artisans. We're now expanding to include a full espresso bar and small kitchen, creating a unique space where exceptional coffee meets Georgian hospitality and artisanal design.
Located in the heart of Red Hook's close-knit community, JAMIERI Kafe offers more than just great coffee—we provide an immersive cultural experience where guests can savor authentic Georgian flavors while discovering beautiful handcrafted pieces from artisans.
We're seeking an experienced Lead Prep Cook and an Assistant to the Lead Prep Cook to join our small, passionate team in the kitchen. This role focuses on preparing fresh, high-quality small plates and Georgian-inspired dishes using our organized prep station setup. You'll work closely with our barista team to create a seamless café experience that celebrates Georgian culinary traditions in a fast-casual environment.
*Please be aware that the shop in Red Hook is about a 25 minute walk from the F/G train.
Essential Qualities:
- Experienced Prep Cook comfortable working in small, efficient kitchen spaces
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain clean prep stations
- Team player who can collaborate closely with barista staff
- Interest in learning about and working with Georgian ingredients and flavors
- Adaptable cook who thrives in a café environment rather than full restaurant setting
Required Skills:
- Experience with fresh preparation and assembly-style cooking
- Knowledge of food safety protocols and sanitation practices
- Ability to work efficiently during busy café rush periods
- Strong knife skills and ingredient preparation techniques
- Comfortable with minimal supervision in small team
Daily Responsibilities:
- Follow daily prep lists and maintain consistency
- Adhere to all Department of Health (DOH) standards
- Demonstrate punctuality and reliability in all shifts
- Maintain detail-oriented and organized approach to food preparation
- Properly label and store all food items according to safety protocols
- Communicate with shift lead when food or beverage items are running low how desire to learn, grow, and develop culinary skills
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 1 year of kitchen experience required
- Great attitude with respectful, team-player mindset
- Ability to work effectively in high-volume café environment
- Valid NYC Food Handler's Certificate (required)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for at least 8 hours during shifts
- Lift at least 50 lbs safely
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, compact kitchen environment
Availability:
- Minimum 3-4 shifts per week
- Availability for opening/closing shifts, weekends, and select holidays
- Tuesday through Sunday schedule availability - Store closed on Mondays
- Tuesday - Friday: 6:30am - 5:30pm (2 shifts daily)
- Saturday: 7:30am - 6:30pm (2 shifts daily)
- Sunday: 7:30am - 5:30pm (2 shifts daily)
Compensation & Benefits:
- $21-$24/hour dependent on experience
