ABOUT US

Located in Nopa, Early to Rise is one of San Francisco's most loved brunch spots, featuring an old-school menu, but with all of our major staples made in-house. We are proud to make all of our own breakfast meats (bacon, ham, sausage, etc.), breads (bagels, English muffins and so on) as well as butter, hot sauce, jam ... you name it. We treat every job in the restaurant as a craft to be proud of and seek to create a positive, energetic work culture. We have an opening for a General Manager. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality, a keen eye for detail, an ability to forecast, as well as lead and inspire a team while being fiscally mindful.

ABOUT YOU:

You’re an experienced hospitality professional with at least 6–8 years of progressive restaurant management and 3+ years in a General Manager or senior leadership role. You thrive in a high-volume, scratch-kitchen environment where every detail matters—from service standards to cost control. Organized and decisive, you balance financial acumen with a genuine passion for guest satisfaction. You excel at hiring, motivating, and developing top talent, and you’re comfortable making strategic decisions that keep operations efficient, compliant, and profitable. Most importantly, you love creating an inviting, energetic space that keeps both guests and team members coming back.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead by example with professionalism, hospitality, and integrity.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop all staff, including department leads and hourly team members.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive workplace culture built on respect and accountability.

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Oversee all daily operations, maintaining a visible presence during peak hours.

  • Uphold service and quality standards to ensure consistently excellent guest experiences.

  • Handle guest concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Direct scheduling, labor management, and shift coverage to balance hospitality and compliance.

Financial Oversight & Administration

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

  • Monitor revenue and expenses, implementing cost-control measures and driving profitability.

  • Approve invoices, manage vendor relationships, and maintain purchasing protocols.

  • Oversee payroll processing, timekeeping, and wage-and-hour compliance.

Compliance & Workplace Standards

  • Enforce all California labor, wage, and safety regulations, including meal/rest-break compliance.

  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, health department, and food-safety standards.

  • Maintain and model company policies around professionalism, equity, and inclusion.

  • Safeguard confidentiality in personnel and business matters.

Marketing & Strategic Growth

  • Collaborate on menu development, pricing strategies, and promotional initiatives.

  • Partner with marketing resources to increase visibility and attract new guests.

  • Contribute to long-term planning and brand development to support growth and community presence.

Minimum Requirements

  • 6–8+ years of progressive restaurant or hospitality management, with at least 3 years as a General Manager or senior leader.

  • Proven ability to oversee both front-of-house and back-of-house operations in a high-volume, quality-driven environment.

  • Strong understanding of California labor laws, wage-and-hour compliance, and workplace safety

  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal abilities.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team in a high-pressure environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Current California ServSafe Food Manager certification (or equivalent) and ability to maintain required food-safety certifications.

  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management, P&L oversight, and vendor relations.

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced skills in POS and restaurant management software (Toast preferred).

  • Track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams in an upscale dining or scratch-kitchen setting.

  • Strong guest-service orientation with the ability to handle escalated issues diplomatically.
