Role: Bartender
Location: New York City (One Fifth)
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Floor Manager, and Beverage Director
Position Summary
The Bartender is the steward of Golden Steer’s beverage program, blending precision, speed, and hospitality to deliver classic cocktails, curated wines, and elevated guest experiences. From crafting perfectly balanced drinks to engaging with guests at the bar, you will represent the Golden Steer tradition of timeless service. With deep knowledge of cocktails, spirits, and wine, you’ll anticipate guest needs, upsell confidently, and maintain the highest standards of consistency and polish.
Key Responsibilities
- Craftsmanship & Speed: Prepare cocktails, beer, and wine orders quickly and accurately, following house recipes and presentation standards.
- Guest Engagement: Welcome and interact warmly with guests seated at the bar, guiding their choices and enhancing their dining experience.
- Beverage Knowledge: Maintain strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, and pairings to provide confident recommendations.
- Salesmanship & Personality: Use charm, confidence, and product knowledge to upsell signature cocktails, premium spirits, and wine selections.
- Standards & Consistency: Execute every cocktail and pour to exact specifications; maintain clean glassware, garnishes, and bar mise en place.
- Hospitality & Professionalism: Handle guest requests, questions, and complaints with grace and care.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate smoothly with servers, food runners, and managers to ensure timely and accurate service across the floor.
- Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain bar cleanliness, sidework par levels, and sanitation protocols at all times.

Experience & Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- 1–2+ years of bartending experience in an upscale, high-volume restaurant or cocktail bar.
- Proven ability to balance speed and accuracy under pressure.
- Strong knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine; mixology or sommelier training a plus.
- NYC Food Protection Certificate and/or ATAP/TIPS certification preferred.
- Clear communication skills; English required, Spanish a plus.
Operations & Compliance
- Uphold NYC DOH sanitation standards and follow responsible alcohol service laws.
- Execute allergy and cross-contact protocols with care.
Teamwork & Culture
- Show up prepared and ready to deliver excellence; communicate proactively with managers and teammates.
- Help train new bar staff and model Golden Steer standards.
- Represent Golden Steer with professionalism and pride both behind the bar and on the floor.
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Stand and move quickly for 8–10 hours.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (kegs, cases, and bar stock).
- Nights, weekends, and holidays required.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly rate plus tips, benefits, and growth opportunities within a chef-driven, classic steakhouse culture. Final compensation commensurate with experience.
