Astor Club, an exclusive private club located in the heart of Chicago's Gold Coast, is seeking a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to join our elite culinary team. Key Responsibilities:
  • Kitchen Operations: Manage daily kitchen operations, including overseeing all stations, inventory, and ordering, ensuring precision and consistency in every dish.
  • Menu Development: Actively participate in menu planning sessions, contributing creative ideas and ensuring that all dishes meet our exacting standards.
  • Leadership: Lead by example, fostering a positive work environment and mentoring junior kitchen staff to develop their culinary skills.
  • Training: Clearly communicate expectations to junior sous chefs and hourly staff, ensuring that new hires receive proper training and support.
  • Cost Management: Oversee labor and food costs, tracking weekly and making necessary adjustments to meet budgetary goals.
  • Health & Safety: Audit kitchen areas for compliance with health codes, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Inspiration: Promote a culture of positivity and pride, connecting with all staff members to inspire a collaborative and joyful work atmosphere.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years as a Chef de Partie and/or 2 years as a Sous Chef in fine dining or private club settings.
  • Unparalleled attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest culinary standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and pivot priorities as needed.
  • A passion for culinary creativity and innovation, with a desire to push boundaries in the kitchen.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for at least 8 hours and lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs multiple times during a shift.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($55,000.00 - $62,000.00)
