Ballyhoo Hospitality Group is seeking an energetic, hospitality focused Host to join our Sophia Steak Restaurant in Wilmette. 

Concept Overview: Sophia Steak

Sophia is a neighborhood steakhouse in downtown Wilmette on Chicago’s North Shore. Beloved restaurateurs Glenn Keefer (formerly of Keefer’s Restaurant) and Ryan O’Donnell (Ballyhoo Hospitality) have reunited to create a great neighborhood steakhouse where the menu options encourage guests to visit often; prices are value-driven; the ambiance invites conversations; the staff becomes like family in all the right ways.

Job Summary:

The Host is responsible for the initial guest engagement upon arrival, extending a warm welcome and establishing a tone of hospitality for their dining experience. The Host is also responsible for takeout operations. The Host is expected to exemplify the hospitality, elegance, and professionalism synonymous with our restaurant. Responsibilities encompass greeting and seating guests, managing telephone inquiries, directing guests to designated areas such as the bar, lounge, or restrooms, and ensuring seamless service progression throughout the dining area. Individuals must exhibit a pleasant demeanor, meticulousness, and a professional approach, accompanied by strong hospitality acumen and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. The ability to collaborate effectively within a team, communicate with clarity, and contribute to the smooth operation and high-quality service standards is essential.

Job Requirements & Qualifications: Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain a strong connection to the guests and community.
  • Exude warmth and hospitality in all interactions.
  • Drive sales and covers through acute management of reservation software
  • Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and build relationships with guests while encouraging regulars.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both with guests and team members.
  • Serve guests as part of a team by anticipating their needs, initiating conversation, offering assistance and advice.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers both front and back of the house.
  • Ability to learn the menu and and comfortably guide the guest 
  • Passion to learn and participate in daily food and beverage training.
  • Proficiency in Restaurant reservation systems 
  • Ability to maintain a clean working environment.
  • Must pass general information and food and beverage quizzes.
  • Takes orders from guests over the phone and in person.
  • Answers any questions about the menu, specific food items, or any other inquiries about the menu.
  • Describes all menu items, prices, and methods of preparation.
  • Understands the order taken and any changes in the menu, dietary restrictions, food allergies, etc.
  • Ensures order accuracy every time.
  • Prepares and packages all items for takeout and delivery orders.
  • Aware of all upcoming orders and the status for each order
  • Utilizes and understands third party delivery services.
  • Understands how to close all transactions and collect full payments
  • Ensures that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant's standards.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment.
  • Participates in Pre-Shift meetings and learn new menu items.
  • ServSafe and BASSETT/TIPS Certified.
  • Night and weekend availability is required.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($17.00 - $19.00) plus tips
