JOB OVERVIEW:
A host is the first point of contact for all guests and plays a key role in shaping the guest’s overall dining experience and building rapport with the guest the minute they enter our restaurant. The host must exhibit polished professionalism, warmth, poise, and precision in managing reservations, seating, and guest requests. Working under the direction of the Maître d’ and Guest Relations Manager, the Host ensures all guests are welcomed graciously and that seating flow is maintained in a way that supports service. A host must uphold the standards of excellence that define JKS, professional etiquette and compliance with all health, safety and labor regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide an exceptional level of hospitality, cultivating warm and genuine relationships with our guests to ensure their satisfaction and loyalty.
- Take a proactive approach to customer service, anticipating and addressing guests' needs and preferences before they arise.
- Assist in opening and closing procedures to prepare the restaurant for service and ensure a smooth transition at the end of the day.
- Warmly welcome and bid a fond farewell to every guest with attentiveness, eye contact, and professionalism.
- Confirm reservations and walk-ins with discretion and attention to detail.
- Escort guests to their tables while providing a brief, elegant introduction to their server.
- Recognize VIPs and return guests, and relay relevant notes to the service team.
- Manage daily reservations via SevenRooms.
- Coordinate with the Maître d’ to adjust seating flow in real time based on service needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date guest notes, preferences, dietary restrictions and/or allergies, and seating history.
- Communicate wait times, delays, or special seating arrangements with transparency.
- Relay guest requests, special occasions, or dietary needs to the appropriate staff via soigne slips.
- Maintain active communication with Maître d’ to ensure seamless table turnover.
- Assist the Guest Relations Manager with confirming reservations and guest outreach.
- Ensure the entryway, host stand and coat check areas are immaculate and welcoming at all times.
- Assist in managing guest coats, umbrellas and belongings with care.
- Uphold dress code, grooming, and uniform standards reflective of a luxury environment.
- Follow all NYC Department of Health (DOH) regulations related to hygiene and guest-facing cleanliness.
- Comply with all OSHA workplace safety standards.
- Ensure accurate guest counts for fire code and service compliance.
- Complete relevant checklists and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistency and quality in service delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum (1) year in an upscale restaurant or similar position.
- Good time-management and teamwork skills.
- Pride in appearance.
- Proactive in learning about food, beverage and wine.
- Warm and professional in communicating with guests.
- Constantly strive to improve personal and professional development.
- Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
