Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Banquet Captain to join our team at our private club. This leadership role is crucial to ensuring seamless event execution while upholding the highest standards of service and hospitality. The ideal candidate will have prior experience specifically as a Banquet Captain and a minimum of 10 years in the Food & Beverage industry.

In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of assigned banquet functions—from setup to breakdown—while also supporting daily operations within our à la carte dining venues. You will serve as the primary point of contact for event hosts, coordinate with kitchen and service teams, and lead front-of-house staff to ensure a flawless guest experience.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet guests in a friendly and welcoming manner, ensuring an excellent experience from start to finish.

• Act as the primary point of contact for event hosts, coordinating all aspects of the banquet function.

• Manage the planning and organization of the banquet department, including maintaining the banquet logbook, updating BEOs, and ensuring all event details are followed through.

• Inspect banquet rooms, service areas, and kitchens for cleanliness, proper setup, and sufficient supplies and equipment before the event.

• Oversee the execution of food service, ensuring food counters are set and ready at the scheduled time.

• Assign tasks and direct bartenders and servers, ensuring they are informed about specialty cocktails, liquor requests, and any other specific needs from the host.

• Respond quickly and accurately to guest requests, ensuring a high level of service.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant licenses and certifications, including liquor licenses, as required.

• Plan the event flow and guide the team to execute it in a timely, quiet, and courteous manner.

• Monitor the progress of the event, ensuring that all courses are served at the appropriate time and guests’ needs are met.

• Enforce and adhere to all club standard policies and procedures to maintain consistent quality service.

• Supervise and train staff on proper banquet room setup, food and beverage service, and event breakdown, as directed by the manager.

• Communicate frequently with the banquet chef and kitchen staff to ensure seamless coordination between food production and service.

• Coordinate all function details with banquet, conference planning, and kitchen staff.

• Hold pre-shift and pre-function meetings to prepare the team for upcoming events.

• Actively participate in banquet room setup and food and beverage service.

• Maintain ongoing communication with event hosts to ensure their needs are met and any last-minute changes are addressed.

• Ensure all guest checks are properly billed and signed according to arrangements.

• Oversee daily sales reconciliation, ensuring accurate posting and reporting to the Front Office.

• Follow all security, safety, emergency, and energy procedures as outlined by the club.

• Maintain high grooming and hygiene standards for all banquet staff.

• Monitor the profitability of events by ensuring portion control, minimizing waste, and managing supplies effectively.

• Assist the Banquet Manager in creating and maintaining schedules for equipment maintenance, repairs, and cleaning.

• Lead, guide, and motivate banquet staff by setting performance standards and providing feedback to improve team performance.

• Complete all the required training to support your role and the department’s operational needs.

• Perform any other duties assigned by the Banquet Manager.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Banquet Captain in a private club, hotel, or fine dining setting.

• Minimum of 10 years in the Food & Beverage industry.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to multi-task and lead service teams in fast-paced, high-expectation environments.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as needed.

• Commitment to excellence in service and hospitality, with a keen eye for detail.

Private / Social Club

The Yale Club was founded in 1897 on a shared common history, with the goal of allowing graduates the ability to continue the friendships they formed at Yale. Over the last century, it has grown into the organization that members enjoy today. It is a club in the most treasured sense of the word.

Originally located at 17 Madison Square and then 30 West 44th Street, the Club now sits on Vanderbilt Avenue, in the heart of Midtown and just steps away from Grand Central Station. The Clubhouse was designed by James Gamble Rogers, Class of 1889, and hailed for its dignified neoclassical design. Upon opening its doors in 1915, the building became the largest clubhouse in the world and continues to be the largest college clubhouse in existence today.
